Former 13-time NFL Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion Drew Brees has announced he will be a brand ambassador for the upstart daily fantasy sports operator, OwnersBox.
Brees Expands Role
Former Saints All-Pro quarterback and future Hall of Famer, Drew Brees, has evolved from an investor in the startup DFS brand OwnersBox to a brand ambassador. The platform was founded in 2019, and Brees invested in the company approximately a year later.
However, now he is stepping out of the shadows and representing the company as a brand ambassador and taking a much more public role. He will not only be featured in marketing and promotional campaigns for the company but will also actively engage fans through contests and social media vehicles.
Brees is enthused about his role and stated, “It’s a platform I truly believe in, and I can’t wait to share my passion for OwnersBox with fans everywhere.”
Building Trust Through Star Power
OwnersBox co-founder Brian Kipp believes using Brees as the face of the company will immediately lend credibility and trust to the brand, which will ultimately convince potential customers to try them out and compare them to industry leaders like DraftKings and FanDuel.
“We are extremely fortunate to have Drew involved. Drew representing OwnersBox directly aligns with our goals, vision, and values,” said Brian Kipp, CEO of OwnersBox. “His influence and credibility will be invaluable in amplifying our message and connecting with fans.
“We are confident that his contributions will be instrumental in driving our growth and solidifying our position as a leader in the DFS industry, a position further underscored by the strategic collaboration with Kroger & Kroger Play to significantly expand our reach with a vast new community of sports fans. Look out for exciting opportunities to earn fuel points all season long,” Kipp added.
Kroger Aligns with OwnersBox
Kroger’s is generally associated with being the nation’s leading supermarket company, but it has expanded into the gaming world by rolling out sports betting kiosks run by the Ohio Lottery and establishing a separate entity called Kroger Play, which “enables gamblers to access three sports betting operators from one site,” according to Steve Watkins of the Cincinnati Business Courier.
Those three operators are ESPN Bet for sports betting, Penn Entertainment for online casino gambling, and OwnersBox for daily fantasy sports. Kroger Play only serves as a portal for these sites and likely receives a commission on every customer who uses their “digital business centers.”
OwnersBox has also engaged SCCG Management, a provider of advisory services in the gaming and sports industries, to assist in navigating its continued expansion. OwnersBox is now active in 36 states, the District of Columbia, and throughout Canada.
“OwnersBox is approaching the fantasy sports market from a unique angle that combines exciting gaming and brand promotional integrations. The collaboration between Drew Brees, Kroger Play, and OwnersBox is one we are excited to be working with,” said Stephen Crystal, Founder and CEO of SCCG Management. “We’re excited to bring our global network and expertise to the table to help accelerate their growth and strategic vision.”
