PGA Tour Championship Best Bets: Can Hovland Repeat or Will Rose Bloom?

PGA - Golf BMW Championship 2025 - Final Round
Table of Contents

The PGA Tour season reaches its grand finale this week at East Lake Golf Club with the Tour Championship, and bettors are eyeing two proven contenders: Viktor Hovland and Justin Rose.

Both men bring a winning pedigree to one of the most demanding courses on the schedule, and with the return to a traditional 72-hole stroke-play format, bettors have plenty of ways to cash in at top sportsbooks.

2025 Tour Championship

August 21 – 24, 2025 at East Lake Golf Club

Course Notes

  • East Lake Golf Club
  • Atlanta, Georgia
  • Par 71, 7490 yards
  • Designer – Tom Bendelow 1904, Donald Ross 1918, Rees Jones 1994-2022, Andrew Green 2023.
  • East Lake has some of the smallest Bermudagrass greens on the PGA Tour, and with their undulations and elevations, it makes approach play the premium metric used for bettors.
  • Length and accuracy off the tee have always been fundamental to success over the last 30 years.

Will Hovland be the Viktor?

Long-term readers and followers of my column for Bookmakers Review will remember well what happened two years ago here when Viktor Hovland cleaned up for profits in this event.

The two years since have been challenging for the popular Norwegian who started 2024 in very poor form, and despite challenging for the PGA Championship, it was way below his high standards as he swapped and changed coaches throughout.

This year has been better, but still, Hovland’s form has not been as consistent as the stellar 2023 one.

Hovland won the Valspar Championship out of nowhere and followed up with a 3rd at the US Open, but that inconsistency is reflected in his FedEx Cup ranking of #22 entering this week.  He was ranked 28th in the race before last week’s encouraging effort at the BMW Championship that locked up his spot in this week’s Tour Championship.

The change in format back to a regulation 72-hole competition could be perfect timing for the twenty-seven-year-old who holds a strong plethora of form at the East Lake Golf Club, where he has never finished worse than 15th with two top 10 finishes to add to that 2023 win.

Can the English Rose end the year on Top?

England’s Justin Rose has happy memories of his time at the East Lake Golf Club, the highlight of which was clinching the 2018 FedEx Cup.

That win was clinched by a 4th place finish at the Tour Championship, which was a sixth top 10 finish here in ten outings, indeed on 50% of those occasions he has finished 6th or better.

Back in those days, Rose reached the world #1 ranking after that FedEx win of 2018, and fast forward seven years, he has rekindled that same form with a stellar year at the age of forty-five.

At several press conferences during the past 15 months, Rose has regularly stated how he feels his game is as good as ever.  The first signs of a resurgence in the Englishman’s game came at the 2023 PGA Championship, when he finished 6th, and he quickly built on that at the Open Championship when coming agonisingly close to winning his beloved Open, when runner-up to Xander Schauffele.

Rose has continued the ascent of the world rankings in 2025 with another hurtful major loss at a major championship, when losing a sudden-death playoff to his good friend Rory McIlroy at the Masters Tournament.

His just rewards for persistence came two weeks ago at the St. Jude Championship when he won a sudden-death play-off versus J.J. Spaun after a pulsating final 9 holes of regulation.

With an innate ability to raise his game at the biggest moments, Justin Rose rates a bet this week with our best sportsbook, at BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review).
