Best Shutout Prop Picks Today

Jake Allen Shutout (+1000) at Bovada

Florida Panthers vs. New Jersey Devils – 7:00 PM EDT

Jake Allen will reportedly start for New Jersey today, and that is a great thing. In the offseason, his improvement convinced his team to retain him by signing him to a long-term contract. The justification for this is his higher save percentage last year.

So far this year, he has stopped 23 of 24 shot attempts, and he has sustained his high percentage this year against a Columbus team that has one of the better offenses.

His opponent tonight, Florida, does have a good offense in general, the key term being in general. On the road, the Panthers are a different team. In two road games, they’ve scored a combined total of three goals. With a solid goalie facing a poor road offense, the super attractive odds don’t do justice to how realistic a shutout is.

Samuel Ersson Shutout (+1200) at Bovada

Winnipeg Jets vs. Philadelphia Flyers – 7:00 PM EDT

It has been reported that Samuel Ersson will start for Philadelphia tonight.  If you look at Winnipeg’s last game, then you might think that Ersson won’t stand a chance of shutting out the Jets. However, you have to realize that there is a bit of a “luck” factor in hockey, as teams score more goals or fewer goals than expected based on the quality of shots that they’re attempting.

I want to fade Winnipeg’s offense because the Jets have the fifth-most overachieving goal-scoring offense. Ersson has value because he is better at home, as evident in his higher save percentage in home games last year.

Philadelphia held Florida to two goals because the Flyers have well-coordinated and smartly used defensemen. Now they get well-reputed Cam York back, who will give the Flyers a strong boost on defense that will help make a shutout happen.

Sleeper Shutout Picks

David Rittich Shutout (+1200) at Bovada

Edmonton Oilers vs. New York Islanders – 7:30 PM EDT

Take a look at David Rittich of the Islanders for a shutout pick that you might not have immediately thought of.

His recent struggles will cause people to dismiss him, but he is facing an Edmonton offense that has scored the fewest goals thus far. He did perform much better two years ago, though, so the hope is that a change of scenery and the fact that his head coach was a goalkeeping legend will do him good.
