The English Premier League is officially back with a bang, having finished Round One with six teams having won and currently sitting atop the table.
Across the opening nine matches, fans were treated to 23 goals, highlighted by Liverpool’s thrilling 4-2 win over Bournemouth—the highest-scoring clash of the weekend.
Looking ahead, Round Two features some marquee fixtures as Chelsea take on London rivals West Ham, Manchester City face Tottenham, and Newcastle play host to Liverpool.
According to the current betting odds at top sportsbooks, all three matchups are expected to be tightly contested, offering plenty of intrigue for bettors and fans alike.
West Ham United vs. Chelsea
Friday, August 22, 2025 – 03:00 PM EDT at London Stadium
First Round Impressions
It was a slow start to the 2025/56 English Premier League season for West Ham who suffered a 3-0 loss on the opening day of the season away to newly promoted Sunderland. The Hammers were favorites to win the road matchup at +225. Overall, West Ham didn’t look good and could struggle away to Chelsea tonight.
Chelsea struggled when playing at home against Crystal Palace, but it must be noted that Palace have been on a hot streak lately, winning both the FA Cup and Charity Shield against Manchester City and Liverpool.
The Blues have had success of their own, winning both the Conference League and Club World Cup in the past 4 months.
Blues Aim For 1st Win
Chelsea is the road team and is priced at -125 to win this road matchup and we have to agree with these odds. West Ham didn’t look good during their 3-0 loss on the opening day of the season, and Chelsea didn’t blow us away either, but this should be a good matchup for Chelsea against a far less superior team.
The Blues have won 7 of the previous 10 games against West Ham. We are predicting Chelsea to win this game 3-1.
Manchester City vs. Tottenham Hotspur
Saturday, August 23, 2025 – 07:30 AM EDT at Etihad Stadium
Round One Winners
Both Manchester City and Tottenham won dominantly on the opening day of the season. Man City claimed a 4-0 win over Wolverhampton with goals from Erling Haaland who bagged himself two, Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki also got on the scoreboard.
Tottenham won 3-0 at home against Burnley and have looked much better under new manager Thomas Frank. Richarlison scored two goals for Tottenham, with the 3rd goal coming from Brennan Johnson.
Spurs Stronger Than odds Suggest
Tottenham are going to be a lot more dangerous this season, and they proved it in the first game of the season with a dominant display. Spurs have gone undefeated in 6 of their previous 10 games against Man City, and they are as high as +185 at BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review) to not lose this game.
We like their odds to do so, not only have Spurs improved this season, Man City are not as strong as they have been in previous seasons and despite the fact they could win this game, we don’t feel their odds reflect their chances at -200.
Newcastle United vs. Liverpool
Monday, August 25, 2025 – 03:00 PM EDT at St. James’ Park
Feisty Matchup
This is going to be a fiery game on Monday night with Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak refusing to play for the club and looking to be sold, and ironically, the team he is linked with is Liverpool. Should he happen to sign for Liverpool before this game is highly unlikely he will play, as it could be too dangerous both on and off the field.
Newcastle drew their first game of the season on the road to Aston Villa which wasn’t a bad result, whilst Liverpool beat Bournemouth 4-2 on home soil.
Scouse Party in Tyneside
Although playing on the road, we feel Liverpool will just about edge out Newcastle in this road game. Liverpool is -105 to win on the moneyline, and we would bet them down to as low as -120.
Liverpool looked very dangerous attacking on the first day of the season, despite looking vulnerable defensively, Newcastle could struggle to post a threat going forward. Liverpool to just about edge this one out on the road 2-1.
