This week, golf expert Craig Edwards (@EdwardsTips_) aims to go one better than last week’s runner-up finish with Garrick Higgo, sharing his best bets for the PGA Tour at the 2025 Baycurrent Classic.
Baycurrent Classic
From October 9 to October 12, the PGA Tour takes its annual trip to Japan, but this year we have a change of course with the Yokohama Country Club playing host to the Baycurrent Championship, formerly known as the Zoso Championship.
An elite 78-player field goes to post with no cut and a strong home contingent for the PGA Tour players to take on.
Course Notes: Yokohama Country Club, West Course
- Location: Yokohama, Japan
- Par/Yards: Par 71, 7,315 yards
- Course History: Opened in 1960, renovated in 2015 by Ben Crenshaw & Bill Coore
- Course Features: Signature Coore & Crenshaw bunkering, slick Bentgrass greens, Japanese parkland terrain
Trust the Home Superstar!
Hideki Matsuyama looks like the player to beat this week at the 2025 Baycurrent Classic.
It has been an odd year for the world number #17, who began brightly with a win at the year-opening Sentry Tournament of Champions. His form has been lackluster with no other top 10s in twenty-one events; however, remarkably, fifteen of those events have resulted in top 30 finishes.
Effectively, there has been a level of consistency in his play that has been undermined unusually by poor driving off the tee, something the thirty-three-year-old Japanese superstar has struggled to combat, currently ranking 124th off the tee.
Matsuyama’s most recent event was not on the PGA Tour but over in England for the DP World Tour’s flagship event, the BMW PGA Championship, where he led after 36 holes but faltered in round three with a 76, ultimately finishing 13th (68-64-76-67=275).
Historically, Matsuyama has excelled at this course, previously known as the Zozo Championship, with one previous win in front of his home fans. That factor, plus wide fairways, could well be the difference as Matsuyama attempts to bookend 2026 with tournament wins on the PGA Tour.

Kevin Yu: Contender to Watch
When the PGA Tour visits an unfamiliar course, looking at how players have performed at similar venues can reveal key insights. Kevin Yu is one such player, with past performances indicating he adapts well to international events. He finished 16th at last year’s Zozo Championship and 7th at Pebble Beach in 2023, showing consistency on courses that correlate with Yokohama Country Club.
Yu is a regular on the PGA Tour and has proven he enjoys competing in Japan. Combined with a solid showing at the Sanderson Farms Championship, where he finished 11th as the defending champion last week, Yu presents a compelling option for bettors.

Taiga Semikawa for The Props Place Markets
Japan’s young talent continues to make an impact, and Taiga Semikawa is one of the most consistent players to watch in the Baycurrent Classic 2025.
The Yokohama Country Club has hosted the Minaro Championship in 2023 and 2024, along with the prestigious National Open in 2018. Young buck Keita Nakajima won the 2023 event and will be popular, but it is Taiga Semikawa’s consistency that draws me in for an investment.
The twenty-four-year-old has six top 7 finishes in his last seven events and was runner-up here to Nakajima in 2023. Those place markets at BetOnline show a top 10 and top 20 finish for Taiga Semikawa at competitive prices.
