As we approach the next MLB season, it’s obvious that the Mets want to win and want to win badly. After owner Steve Cohen took over, the Mets went on a spending spree soon after.

New York Mets

Last season, the Mets figured they had all the chips in place to have success in 2021. Instead, injuries and most players not playing up to their potential ruined the 2021 season.

This prompted the Mets to go out before the lockout and pursue multiple players to re-build a contending team. After a 77-85 campaign, the Mets are going to look completely different this year and are currently the favorites to win the NL East.

The Mets added Max Scherzer for the top of the rotation and also brought in players like Starling Marte for center field, Eduardo Escobar for the infield, and Mark Canha for depth in the outfield.

Certainly, the Mets aren’t finished but should have a stacked group once Opening Day comes around.

Atlanta Braves

The Atlanta Braves are the next most talented team in the NL East. The Braves made the playoffs for a second straight season and found their way into the World Series. Not only did the Braves make the World Series. The Braves literally won the World Series over the Houston Astros.

Atlanta made so many changes during the trade deadline and there will be so many changes following this season. It’s not a lock that Freddie Freeman even returns to the Braves.

Other players like Adam Duvall, Joc Pederson, and Jorge Soler might not even return to the club next season.

The pitching staff is solid from top to bottom in the starting rotation, but guys like Ian Anderson are going to have to step up and be more consistent throughout the season.

Philadelphia Phillies

Next up, the Phillies will have a strong starting rotation with Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola, but Nola was a bit inconsistent last year. Ranger Suarez could be a one-hit-wonder and Kyle Gibson was putting up numbers in the first half of the season that you likely won’t see from him again.

But the lineup for the Phillies can get red-hot, especially with Bryce Harper in the middle of it. We’ll see what the Phillies do with the bottom of their lineup, but for now, the Phillies won’t be able to match the Mets.

Washington Nationals

We’ve also been hearing rumors about Juan Soto wanting a $500 million salary from the Washington Nationals. So far the Nationals have been baited, but he’s a generational talent that the Nationals need to find a way to keep. I

f you look at the Nationals’ roster from that World Series team, only Soto is really left. Even Max Scherzer is gone now.

The Nationals want to build around Soto but don’t have enough depth, as of now, to compete with the other NL East teams.

Miami Marlins

Lastly, the Miami Marlins are a young team that could surprise this season. The lineup includes young studs like Jazz Chisholm and Jesus Sanchez. They’ve also added a big slugger like Avisail Garcia to hit in the middle of the lineup with Jesus Aguilar.

That’ll be fun and the pitching rotation can be really elite for Miami with so much young talent.

Miami is essentially the wildcard of this division, but overall, the Mets are going to be the deepest once the season starts up again.
