DraftKings has inked a media deal with NBCUniversal that will give the online gaming powerhouse access to the company’s broadcast streams across a variety of platforms.
Visibility Enhancement
If it pays to advertise, then DraftKings should reap serious dividends on its latest media broadcasting splurge.
The multiyear deal between the online sports betting titan and the broadcast goliath is reportedly worth nearly $500 million over the duration of the five-year pact with the Comcast subsidiary.
Stephanie Sherman, chief marketing officer at DraftKings, stated, “We are proud to join forces with NBCUniversal, an iconic name in sports entertainment, in a landmark multi-year agreement that brings together two industry leaders. Our presence throughout NBCUniversal’s sports ecosystem will not only engage fans in powerful new ways but also augment our industry-leading live betting capabilities.
Change in Perspective
The landscape has dramatically shifted over the last five years, with sports betting companies locking up national spots with major broadcasters, reaching areas in which sports betting has not launched, instead of advertising specifically in markets that had recently launched or were preparing to launch their sports betting industry.
Now that most of the states offer sports betting in one form or another, the media shift has morphed from reaching a specific geographic group to a national audience, whose aim is to attract potential customers in states that have not legalized sports betting, namely California and Texas, the country’s two most heavily populated states.
The deal will allow DraftKings access to some of the biggest events in sports, including Super Bowl LX in early February, NBA All-Star Weekend in mid-February, and the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup on Telemundo next summer.
But those are only some of the hallmark events. The deal will also include access to broadcasts of:
- NBA
- College football
- College basketball
- NFL
- PGA
The deal will allow DraftKings advertising access on The Golf Channel, NBC Sports, the Peacock streaming service, and Telemundo.
By leveraging NBCUniversal’s expansive reach and premium sports content, DraftKings will engage fans across linear, streaming, and digital ecosystems, according to a statement.
