Toronto’s Offense
The Raptors primarily want to attack the basket. One key figure here is RJ Barrett, who is scoring more points per game this season than he has in any other season.
Despite being a shooting guard, he isn’t so much into shooting – as in, shooting conventional jump shots – as he is into launching floaters and otherwise benefitting from his dribble penetration inside the arc.
Largely thanks to Barrett, Toronto attempts the seventh-most field goals within five feet of the basket.
Washington’s Defense
The Wizards are full of bad defenders. There are a lot of things that go wrong for the Wizards defensively.
You might have a player ball-watching, with the result that the opponent scores an uncontested layup via a simple cutter. A simple pass inside will turn into an easy dunk.
It is too easy for opponents to score, especially at the basket. While the Wizards show determination to limit three-point attempts, they give up the most field goals made within five feet of the basket.
They desperately need, perhaps more than other pieces, a big man who can protect the basket.
Washington’s Offensive Outlook
The same story applies to Washington: like Toronto, the Wizards want to attack the basket and face just the sort of defense that will allow them to thrive inside.
They attempt the fourth-most field goals within five feet of the basket, and the Raptors allow the seventh-most field goals and the third-highest field goal percentage within five feet of the basket.
Toronto lacks good defenders, bigs who can guard the rim and length in their wing defenders.
Both teams will score at ease in their preferred spaces around the basket.
