Patriots Profile
The Patriots currently have four quarterbacks on the roster and we could very well see Drake Maye, Joe Milton, and Baily Zappe getting time in this one. Veteran Jacoby Brissett, the presumed regular-season starter, may sit this one out.
The Pats come equipped with a solid defense and have been dominating the offense during preseason practices.
Panthers Profile
The Panthers gave up what became the No. 1 overall pick to the Bears in the 2024 NFL Draft to draft Bryce Young as the top pick in the 2023 draft. It was a move that had the Panthers’ owner’s fingerprints, David Tepper, all over it much to the chagrin of the coaching staff.
Young had an abysmal rookie season and would have been better served holding a clipboard and learning rather than starting behind a lousy offensive line. It is unlikely we will see Young in this one and veteran passer, Andy Dalton, is sidelined with a quad injury. Therefore, the reins of the offense will be handed to rookie Jack Plummer and fourth-year veteran Jake Luton.
The Pick
The Patriots will have the advantage at the most important position on the field with Drake Maye intent on proving he was worthy as the Patriots’ top draft choice (3rd overall) this past April while Joe Milton is a physical specimen and Bailey Zappe has more regular-season experience than all, including the Panthers’ QB’s Plummer and Luton.
Lay the lumber with the Pats and watch Maye impress in his first NFL exhibition game.
