The NFL draft always brings a new wave of talent into the league! Most of the time, a few rookies will make an immediate impact for their teams.
Therefore, the NFL likes to recognize the very best offensive rookie and hand out the Rookie of the Year award on offense and defense.
This is one of the most popular futures before the NFL season begins, as many bettors enjoy trying to figure out which rookie will stand out the most during the regular season. There are many quarterbacks who will ultimately win the award.
However, this year, five of the top six candidates, according to the odds board, are not quarterbacks. Is it smart to bet on a non-quarterback to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year this year?

NFL OROY: Players to Watch
Ashton Jeanty (+250) at BetOnline
Ashton Jeanty is currently the favorite to win the 2026 Offensive Rookie of the Year. The former Boise State product earned 374 carries last season for 2,601 yards, averaging seven yards a carry throughout the season. Jeanty helped lead Boise State into the College Football Playoff and was in the running for the Heisman Award despite being a running back on a team outside of a Power 4 conference.
Now, he’s the starting running back for the Las Vegas Raiders, who have seemingly revamped the offense behind Geno Smith at quarterback. The Raiders are going to be run-heavy, especially since the wide receiver core is a bit weak.
In the preseason, Jeanty averaged 3.1 yards per carry on 12 attempts. He also scored a touchdown. Ultimately, don’t expect Jeanty to add seven yards a carry in the NFL. But he’ll have all the reps needed to win the 2026 Offensive Rookie of the Year this season.
Cam Ward (+300) at BetOnline
The media isn’t hyping up Cam Ward like other first overall draft picks. That’s what makes me believe Cam Ward will be special.
Ward finished with 4,313 yards passing and 39 passing touchdowns in his final collegiate season with the Miami Hurricanes. He also showcased his wheels, running 60 times for 204 yards and four touchdowns.
For one, Ward was named captain as a rookie. He’s also been named the starting quarterback and has a lot of weapons around him.
Ward has Van Jefferson, Calvin Ridley, Tyler Lockett, and Chig Okonkwo. Behind him is a veteran running back, Tony Pollard, who won’t hurt, either.
Ward is a silent killer. Watch out. At +300, he’s a much better value play than Jeanty.
Omarion Hampton (+750) at BetOnline
Omarion Hampton is a rookie. Yet, he didn’t get much playing time during the preseason. The former North Carolina star added just four carries for 21 yards. He added 5.3 yards per carry on his four attempts.
But the lack of attempts proves that he’ll be the No. 1 running back for this Chargers offense. Najee Harris still has to get back to speed, leaving Hampton as the running back who could end up getting most of the reps at running back.
That volume alone will be super helpful.
Travis Hunter (+1000) at BetOnline
Travis Hunter is the most notable name on this list. But if he intends to play offense and defense, it’s hard to select him as the 2026 Offensive Rookie of the Year. Either he’ll be limited on both ends of the field, or he’ll end up getting hurt because he’s playing on both ends of the field.
Hunter is a tremendous talent. If he chose to play just wide receiver, I’d be confident in his ability to win the award with Trevor Lawrence at quarterback. But since that’s not the case, I’d stay away.
