Memphis Grizzlies vs. Toronto Raptors

Monday, January 22, 2024 – 07:30 PM ET at Scotiabank Arena

The Memphis Grizzlies have been hit with so many injuries this year. It’s just not their year.

At 15-27, the Grizzlies will have to concede this season and start worrying about next year. However, the Toronto Raptors are in the same boat for tonight’s matchup. They’ve already unloaded Pascal Siakam and OG Anunoby in hopes of building a better team in the future.

Still, the Grizzlies are one of the worst offenses in the NBA. They rank in the bottom ten in points per 100 possessions, effective field goal percentage, turnover percentage, offensive rebounding percentage, and free throw rate.

Toronto has been below-average defensively, but they’ve at least limited teams at the foul line.

The Raptors don’t get to the foul line often, either. But they’re shooting a 54.8 effective field goal percentage this season and have scored at a higher rate in terms of points per 100 possessions.

The Raptors should have success on the offensive glass, with the Grizzlies allowing 28.1% of offensive rebounds.

Let’s back the Raptors at home -7.5.

Charlotte Hornets vs. Minnesota Timberwolves

Monday, January 22, 2024 – 08:00 PM ET at Target Center

The Timberwolves have 30 wins on the year. Meanwhile, the Hornets haven’t even won ten games this season.

That’s why the Timberwolves are heavy favorites at -14.5.

The Hornets have LaMelo Ball back from injury. However, he’s still not 100% and is even listed as questionable tonight. The Hornets have scored just 110.1 points per 100 possessions, which is 28th in the NBA. They’re also shooting a 52.5% effective field goal percentage. That’s also 28th in the NBA.

If you think that’s bad, the Hornets rank dead last in free throw rate and are below average on the offensive glass.

Meanwhile, the Timberwolves are the best defense in the NBA, holding teams to 108.9 points per 100 possessions with an effective field goal percentage of 51%. The Timberwolves should do a good job limiting the Hornets on the glass and at the foul line. They’re also projected to earn at least 14% of turnovers in this game.

On the other hand, the Timberwolves have scored 116 points per 100 possessions. That’s average. However, the Timberwolves ultimately shot a 56.8% effective field goal percentage and had a free throw rate of 22.4. They just turn the ball over at a heavy rate and don’t dominate the offensive glass.

Against the Hornets, Minnesota won’t have many problems. The Hornets have given up 121.6 points per 100 possessions with a 58% effective field goal percentage.

Back the Timberwolves to dominate the Hornets in tonight’s matchup.

Boston Celtics vs. Dallas Mavericks

Monday, January 22, 2024 – 08:30 PM ET at American Airlines Center

The Dallas Mavericks have had four days of rest, while the Celtics just played last night. But even with that, the Celtics are still 3.5-point favorites on the road against the Mavericks.

Boston has scored 121.5 points per 100 possessions, which ranks second in the NBA. The Celtics have also added a 57.2% effective field goal percentage, which is also top five in the NBA.

Beyond that, the Celtics have limited turnovers to 12.8% and have a free throw rate of 20.1. They’re a little weaker on the offensive glass, but the Mavericks have given up 29.9% offensive rebounds. The Celtics will exploit the Mavericks’ inability to rebound on the defensive end and earn many second-chance points.

On the other hand, the Mavericks have earned only 25.3% of offensive rebounds. They’re not going to beat the Celtics on the glass and likely won’t see the foul line as much as the Celtics.

Dallas will be able to limit turnovers, but they’re scoring 118.8 points per 100 possessions. That’s good, but it doesn’t compare to the Celtics. Plus, Boston has allowed only 111.6 points per 100 possessions, which ranks third in the NBA defensively.

The Mavericks could come out of the gate rusty from not playing for four days.

I like the Celtics at -3.5 for this matchup.
