San Francisco Giants vs. Milwaukee Brewers
Wednesday, August 28, 2024 – 08:10 PM ET at American Family Field
Freddy Peralta of the Brewers has resembled the pitcher that we expected the last two starts, and we are backing him at home in Milwaukee here hosting Kyle Harrison and the Giants.
Better Current Form
We expected big things from Freddy Peralta this season, so his 8-7 record is disappointing. and he has been maddeningly inconsistent. Through all of that though, he has still managed a 3.86 ERA and 3.92 xFIP that a lot of pitchers would be content with. And the good news is that Peralta now appears to be in a good cycle that he is capable of continuing.
Freddy has maintained his typically great strikeout rate this year at 10.37/9 and his velocity of 94.3 MPH is on par with his career-best 94.4 MPH last season. Moreover, the results are starting to show with a total of one run and seven hits allowed in his last two starts. Given our expectations for Peralta, this could very well be a sign of things to come.
Not Lived Up to Expectations
Kyle Harrison was called up with great hype by the Giants last season, but he did not meet those expectations posting a 4.15 ERA and 5.01 xFIP over seven starts. After posting double-digit strikeout rates at every minor league level, that rate was 9.09/9 in the majors against a walk rate of 2.86/9.
Well, Kyle has made 22 starts this season and the results have still not been what the Giants expected. Sure, he has a winning 9-7 record, but with a moderate 4.00 ERA and 4.25 xFIP. Furthermore, his strikeout rate has lowered to 8.31/9 while his walk rate is slightly up to 2.92/9 over the heavier workload.
Even Harrison’s overall Stuff+ rating is only 89 this season after standing at 95 as a rookie last year.
The Pick
All early indications are that Harrison was overrated when he first came up, while Peralta seems to be rounding into the great form that we expected all along, so bet the Brewers Wednesday.
Predicted Score: Brewers 5 – Giants 3
