Veteran righty Kyle Gibson (7-6, 4.54 ERA, 1.38 WHIP) will take the bump for the Cardinals on Saturday, coming off his worst outing of the season.
On Monday night, the Padres torched the 36-year-old for seven runs on five hits before he exited the game after 4.1 innings. Gibson has run hot and cold in August, mainly cold, as evidenced by his 6.91 ERA for the month.
Yankees Pitching Profile
The Yankees will trot out rookie Will Warren (0-2, 9.69 ERA, 1.81 WHIP), who was blazed in his last outing, only his fourth MLB start, when the Rockies lineup hammered him for six runs and seven hits before his manager had seen enough, yanking him after only three innings of work.
The Pick
Last week in this same MLB column, I faded Warren and the Yankees against the Rockies, and I was handsomely rewarded, as Colorado closed as a +276-road dog over at Bookmaker (visit our Bookmaker Review).
Although nothing’s sweeter than a repeater, I hesitate to fade him again because Gibson looks gassed at this stage of the season. But because I have zero faith in either of these pitchers, I am convinced plenty of runs will be scored at Yankee Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Go over the posted total.
