The Top Gun franchise is coming to the Las Vegas Strip as an immersive ride using state-of-the-art technology situated on an undeveloped area of the STRAT Hotel, Casino and Tower.
Danger Zone
Kenny Loggins had one of the biggest hits of his career when his song, “Danger Zone,” became inextricably linked with Top Gun, the movie, in 1986, and again 40 years later in the sequel, Top Gun: Maverick. It captured the daring swagger of US fighter pilots, and there is little doubt that the iconic soundtrack will be featured again when an immersive amusement ride, the Top Gun Las Vegas attraction, swings open its door to the public in the summer of 2028.
Paramount Global owns the rights to the Top Gun franchise, and they, along with Advent Allen Entertainment, have decided to create a death-defying experience for those who want to know what it is like to pilot a fighter jet.
The Las Vegas hotel and casino, The STRAT, will be the site of the amusement ride, and as the tallest complex on the Strip with its 1,149-foot Vegas resort tower, there will be plenty of room to roam for this quasi-simulation ride.
More Top Gun Attractions Planned
Top Gun Las Vegas won’t be ready for three more years; however, the companies are already planning to open similar attractions throughout the world. Expansion plans are already in the works, but where they ultimately land, outside of Las Vegas, is still unknown.
“The Top Gun films are one of the most emotionally charged stories of our time,” said Mark Advent, co-founder of Advent Allen Entertainment and creator of the New York-New York Hotel and Casino. “We’re proud to unite with Paramount to bring this timeless, action-packed epic to life – delivering experiences that embody teamwork, excellence, the exhilaration of speed, and the thrill of flying. We are pulling out all the stops and looking forward to bringing Top Gun to even higher heights on the Strip and beyond.”
The sequel, Top Gun: Maverick, rekindled interest in the franchise, and even the original version has been watched by generations who were not around when it was filmed. Top Gun in 1986 was made with a budget of $15 million, and despite initial critical resistance, the film became a smash hit with theatergoers and grossed $357 million worldwide. Top Gun: Maverick grossed $1.49 billion and became the 13th highest-grossing film of all time.
