Carabao Cup semi-finals

Tottenham face Chelsea on Tuesday night in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final showdown. These teams are third and fourth in the Premier League table and there is a deep animosity between both sets of fans, so it should prove to be a fiery encounter at Wembley. Chelsea have some magnificent players like Eden Hazard, N’Golo Kante and Jorginho to call upon, and they will be dangerous as they are a great cup side. In the past decade the Blues have won the FA Cup four times, the Champions League, the Europa League and the league cup, so it is a club with a winning mentality. Tottenham have won nothing in that time, but they will feel they have the better all-round team this season. Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen, Son Heung-Min and Dele Alli are on fire at present. Spurs have home advantage in the first leg and they are the favourites, best priced at 11/10 with Unibet, while Chelsea are out at 53/20 with Marathon Bet. The following day sees a David versus Goliath match as Premiership champions Man City lock horns with League One team Burton Albion. Pep Guardiola’s men are best priced at just 1/10 with Bet365 to win it, so you will need to look at handicaps if you fancy them to get the job done.

T20 Big Bash

The world’s finest white ball cricketers continue to slug it out Down Under at the Big Bash and Hobart Hurricanes are leading the way with five wins out of five. They take on the struggling Melbourne Renegades on Monday and they look well priced for a win at 10/11 with William Hill. Perth Scorchers were the favourites to win the tournament before it began, but they sit bottom of the table, with five defeats from six games. They desperately need to get back to winning ways, and they might just do so against the Melbourne Stars on Wednesday. They are even money to do so with Bet365, Sky Bet and Paddy Power, and that looks like an attractive price.

La Liga

Spain’s top flight resumes at the weekend and high-flying Atletico Madrid should be able to pick up an important home win against Levante. They defend really well in front of their home fans and an Atletico win to nil looks enticingly priced at 9/10 with Bet Victor. League leaders Barcelona face a comfortable looking home clash with Eibar and punters should look to the Asian handicap market there, or combine a Barcelona win with a goals bet, as Barca are the highest scoring team in the division and Eibar are good in front of goal too.

Premier League

The action begins with West Ham v Arsenal on Saturday at 12.30 p.m, and this one has goals written all over it. Arsenal can be fleetingly devastating going forwards, but they are dreadful at the back. Ditto West Ham, who are blessed with stellar attacking talent in the form of Felipe Anderson and Marko Arnautovic, but lumbered with a leaky defence. It finished 4-1 to the Gunners when these teams met in April 2018 and 3-1 to Arsenal earlier this season, and we should be in for another open, entertaining game here, so both teams to score and over 2.5 goals looks good at 4/5 with Sky Bet and Coral. The biggest game of the weekend sees Tottenham host a resurgent Man Utd at Wembley. The Red Devils have won four in a row since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over from Jose Mourinho in the dugout, but they all came against poor opposition. Now they face a really stern test and it will be fascinating to see how they get on. Spurs are 15/13 favourites and deservedly so.

NFL playoffs

Just eight teams are left standing in the NFL postseason and that will be whittled down to four at this weekend’s divisional round. It begins with the Indianapolis Colts – fresh from a stunning 21-7 victory over the Texans in Houston on Saturday – travelling to Kansas City to face an extremely strong Chiefs team. This looks like a bridge too far for the battling Colts, and Kansas City -5 looks interesting at 49/50 with Marathon Bet and 10/11 with various others.
