The action continues in Paris with the players from the bottom half of the draw in action on the women’s competition. Bookmakers Review breaks down the fixtures below and lists the best available odds from green listed bookmakers.
Strycova vs. Cornet
As we predicted in our WTA French Open Day 3 analysis, Timea Babos couldn’t find the answer to Alize Cornet’s solid baseline game. Playing in Roland Garros brings the best out of Cornet with the French always raising her level on this event. Adding to this, Alize couldn’t ask for a better schedule for this Thursday since she’s going to play on the biggest court in Roland Garros – the Philippe-Chatrier Court.
Regardless of this Thursday’s result, Barbora Strycova already secured her return to the top 20. After reaching the 3rd round on last year’s edition, Strycova is now just one win away from another appearance at that stage of the competition. Looking now at Barbora’s campaign in Roland Garros, the Czech didn’t experience any problems on her debut with an easy 6 – 3 6 – 0 win against Alison Riske.
Taking a look now at the odds for this match, the value is definitely on Cornet’s side with Pinnacle offering 99/50 for her victory while Strycova is available at 11/25 with William Hill. Besides the value on Alize’s moneyline, her +1.5 Set Handicap at 3/4 with Pinnacle is also a great betting approach for this contest.
Svitolina vs. Pironkova
Elina Svitolina couldn’t ask for a better start to 2017 with an impressive 32 – 7 record this season. Adding to this, Svitolina secured a place in the top 6 for the first time in her career after winning the Internazionali BNL D’Italia. Taking a look now at Elina’s numbers in the opening round against Yaroslava Shvedova, the highlight goes to her baseline consistency with the Ukrainian ending the match with 25 winners and only 16 unforced errors.
After reaching the quarter-finals last year, Tsvetana Pironkova is looking for another successful run in Roland Garros. Despite her disappointing 5 – 10 record in 2017, Pironkova started her campaign in Paris with an outstanding 6 – 0 6 – 4 victory against Mona Barthel. Tsvetana’s baseline consistency proved decisive with a terrific 1.50 winners / unforced errors ratio.
Due to Svitolina’s astonishing results in recent months, she’s the undeniable favourite to win this match at 1/10 with Bet365 while Pinnacle offers 207/25 for Pironkova’s victory. Although we agree with Elina’s favouritism, it’s impossible to find any value on her current odds. Having said that, we’ll take the Over 17.5 at 4/5 with Pinnacle since we expect a closer affair than the bookmakers suggest.
