The San Siro will roar to life Wednesday night, and Inter has been heavily backed to secure victory over their fierce rivals. AC Milan and Inter share this famous stadium, but Gennaro Gattuso’s AC Milan team is the host for this matchup. Their supporters will be in the ascendancy, but punters fancy Inter to take all three points as they bid to nail down a top-four place in Serie A. Inter is certainly in better form, eight points above AC Milan in the table, so it is understandable to see the majority of bets going on them to win.
The soccer odds board has the teams neck and neck: Inter is 13/8 with most Green Listed Bookmakers to win it and best priced at 9/5 with Betway, while Milan is 7/4 with most bookies and best priced at 19/10 with MarathonBet. The draw is 9/4 with William Hill and various others, but most punters fancy Inter to win this one outright. They warmed up in style by beating Verona 3-0 at the weekend, and that followed a 5-0 victory over Sampdoria, so Luciano Spalletti’s team is in fine form. They are now just two points behind third-place Roma, with a game in hand, so they could well nail down a top-three spot before the season is out.
Milan lost 3-1 to league-leader Juventus at the weekend, leaving them sixth in the table. They have secured just 50 points from 29 games, a poor return considering they spent a fortune in the summer to sign the likes of Leonardo Bonucci and Andre Silva. They were supposed to challenge Juventus for the title, but instead they are well off the pace. The new players initially failed to gel and they were in dreadful form under Vincenzo Montella, but they improved when they replaced him with Gattuso. They went on a long unbeaten run in 2018 but were comprehensively outplayed over two Europa League legs by Arsenal and lost 6-2 on aggregate. That might have knocked their confidence, and they did not offer much against Juventus at the weekend.
Inter has lost only twice away from home this season, and the San Siro hardly even constitutes an away game for them, so they should be confident of a result here. They spent only a fraction of what their rivals did in the summer, but they have a better team on paper. Mauro Icardi is a live wire up front, and Ivan Perisic and Antonio Candreva have been superb in midfield. Inter "draw no bet" looks like an interesting option at even money with Paddy Power and Betfair. They are unbeaten in their last four matches.
Milan has not beaten Inter since January 2016, and they have won only one of their last 10 games against their local rivals, so it would be a surprise if Gattuso’s men claimed victory in this one.
Inter is now 4/6 with SkyBet to secure a top-four finish in Serie A this season, which also looks intriguing. Juventus and Napoli are well ahead, and the final two places are between Roma, Inter and Lazio. Inter could leapfrog Roma by winning their game in hand, and that would leave them four points clear of Lazio – who also has to contend with a Europa League campaign – so they should be able to finish at least fourth this season.
