Europa League Round of 16 – 2nd leg Predictions

Arsenal vs. AC Milan
Arsenal absolutely smashed the Rossoneri at San Siro beating them 2-0 and destroying their hopes to win the trophy. After 4 consecutive defeats in all competitions, Arsenal bounced back and won 2 games in a row, against AC Milan in Europa League last Thursday and against Watford 3-0 in Premier League last weekend. What? 2 clean sheets in a row for such a poor defensive side? That’s totally surprising but let’s be honest and admit that both AC Milan and Watford missed many scoring chances and a penalty. Arsenal have no fixtures next weekend as most of the Premier League matches are postponed due to the FA Cup matches. Wenger should be able to start with his best XI looking to extend Arsenal’s winning streak to 3 games in all competitions and improve the morale of his players and fans. One thing is for sure, inspired by their coach Gennaro Gattuso, AC Milan will come to play their chance and try to overcome the 1st leg result but the prospects for that outcome are minimal as Milan’s players are not ready to play at this level in the European competitions. We expect a home win and the bookies are offering us superb odds.

Best pick for the match: Arsenal to win at 2.0 with Betfair.

RB Salzburg vs Dortmund
Incredible or not, Salzburg are favorites to advance in the quarterfinals of the competition after beating Dortmund 2-1 in Germany last week. It should be another high-scoring affair between 2 beautiful attacking-minded teams with impressive skills and talent in their squads. Goalless in 5 consecutive matches Dortmund’s Michy Batshuayi bounced back scoring a brace and helping his side win 3-2 last weekend against Eintracht Frankfurt at home in the German Bundesliga to secure their 3rd place in the standings. Dortmund have no other choice but to attack from the 1st minute and score at least 2 goals against the Austrian side and that’s not impossible. Salzburg are in superb form losing their last match in the Austrian top-flight league in August 2017 and being 7 points clear at the top of the table. The 1st leg was Salzburg 1st win in German soil and 1st Dortmund defeat against Austrian teams. We expect both teams to contribute on the scoreboard in another thrilling match.

Best pick for the match: Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals at 1.85 with Coral.

Athletic Bilbao vs. Marseille
As expected and predicted, Marseille won the 1st leg on French soil 3-1 and are likely to qualify in the quarter finals despite conceding a crucial away goal in the 1st leg. They controlled the game securing the possession and creating many scoring opportunities but a mistake in their defense made the referee award a penalty for Bilbao. Despite the 3-1 lead we don’t expect Marseille to have a defensive approach in the 2nd leg and try to secure the result. For the French side the best defense in the attack and if we are looking at their Ligue 1 goals record we can see that they have the worst defense in the top 5 teams with 34 goals conceded in 29 rounds. Bilbao are another animal when playing at home and they have the necessary weapons to qualify further but they need to play at their best level and score at least 2 times without conceding goals. It’s very difficult to keep a clean sheet against Marseille so out top pick is coming from the goals market.

Best pick for the match: Over 2.5 goals at 1.9 with Betfair.
