On June 14, Ladbrokes International PLC was informed that its application for the gTLD .LADBROKES is eligible to proceed to the next phase of ICANN's new gTLD program.
The Technical & Operational Capability Panel assigned Ladbrokes' application 30 points, when a minimum of 22 would have been enough to pass. Ladbrokes was also assigned 10 points (8 the minimum required to pass) from the Financial Capability Panel, which was particularly impressed with the bookmaker's funding.
Ladbrokes now moves to the contracting phase and pre-delegation testing to determine whether its proposed registry services for .LADBROKES meet the technical requirements of the ICANN program.
The UK bookmaker is also one of four applicants for .BET that are all still waiting for the initial evaluation. Ladbrokes application will be evaluated first, but the gambling operator will have to wait for all applicants to go through the IE phase and then resolve with them the string contention before the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers ultimately assigns the rights over the .BET gTLD.
Other applications for gambling-related gTLDs that passed ICANN Initial Evaluation include Tabcorp Holdings' .TAB, Famous Four Media's .BINGO and .POKER, Donuts.co's .CASINO and .POKER, IG Group's .FOREX. and Afilias' .LOTTO.
William Hill will have to wait few more months to have its application for .WILLIAMHILL evaluated, just like IG Group is waiting for .SPREADBETTING.
