Bwin.Party pays $15 million to settle with Kentucky

The office of Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear announced to have reached a settlement with Bwin.party to recover online gambling losses by Kentucky residents.

In August 2010, the Commonwealth of Kentucky had filed a lawsuit against PartyGaming Plc, the company that merged with Bwin to form Bwin.party in March 2011.

Prior to the passage of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006, PartyGaming accepted bets from US gamblers, including from Kentuckians.

The $15 million settles the bets PartyGaming accepted from Kentucky residents before 2006. Governor Beshear commented: “Bwin.party is making every effort to comply with the laws of the United States and demonstrate that they want to be known for their integrity and honesty in this industry.”

The Bwin.party settlement follows the $6m settlement the Commonwealth of Kentucky received last week from the federal Government.
