Nearly 30 years in the making, the 1996 Adam Sandler comedy Happy Gilmore is getting a sequel. Happy Gilmore 2 is going to bring Sandler back to one of his most memorable roles, and we’ll also see Christopher McDonald (Shooter McGavin) and Julie Bowen (Virginia Venit) reprise their roles.
We also know Benito Martinez Ocasio (AKA Bad Bunny) is going to be in it after he’s recently tried his acting chops in Narcos: Mexico. NFL superstar Travis Kelce, a big fan of the original film, is also in the sequel, which will be a Netflix release sometime in 2025 or 2026 as filming just started this month.
But you can actually bet on numerous props for Happy Gilmore 2 at a top-rated sportsbook like BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review). We’ll walk you through the props below with our takes, and remember, these should just be for fun.
How Many Kids for Happy and Virginia?
In case you forgot, Happy (Sandler) and Virginia (Bowen) were a couple at the end of the movie, and it appears they’ll still be together as a family in the sequel. You can bet on how many kids they have at BetOnline:
- Under 2.5 kids (-160)
- Over 2.5 kids (+120)
Smart money is on the under, right? This is probably going to be a 90 or 100-minute comedy, so having 3 kids is just overkill with the plot. You can’t beat the usual setup of the daughter and son where one character (usually the daughter) gets a real subplot and the other gets a couple of throwaway lines.
Of course, Sandler is old enough to have kids that can be young adults, so we’ll see how they play this off but I would take the under.
Things to Happen in Happy Gilmore 2
BetOnline has 10 props on events in the film that you win if they happen. They range from some obvious ones like a cameo role from a real Major winner (-300) to a cameo appearance by Taylor Swift (+1600) given the Travis Kelce connection.
Tiger Woods wasn’t quite a thing yet in the PGA Tour when the original came out but getting him or someone like Phil Mickelson to appear seems very likely. But I think this is a passion project for Kelce, and he’ll leave the busy Taylor out of it, so I wouldn’t take that risk on the longest odds prop.
Here are our two favorites for this market:
- No ghost to appear in the film (+300 at BetOnline): This is a good one that they should do out of respect for Carl Weathers, who played Chubbs and appeared in ghost form at the end along with the alligator who took his hand and Abraham Lincoln (with the context that he ended slavery, and Chubbs couldn’t participate in the PGA because of racism). Weathers passed away earlier this year at 76, so he won’t be in the sequel. They should just leave the ghosts out of it this time.
- Happy Gilmore to Play in Ryder Cup (+600 at BetOnline): There has been some speculation that the plot could revolve around the Ryder Cup with Happy perhaps playing on the same team as former rival Shooter McGavin (McDonald). That could be a great way to give the film a new dynamic as they are frankly too old to still be competing for majors with each other.
What Will Happen First in Happy Gilmore 2?
BetOnline has 5 props that could happen in the movie where you have to pick which will happen first:
- Happy hits hockey slapshot (+100)
- Happy gets injured (+210)
- Happy appears on “Full Swing” (+400)
- Happy fights Drew Carey (+400)
- Happy tests positive for PEDs (+500)
The Drew Carey fight is of course a nod to his fight with former Price Is Right host Bob Barker in the original. Carey is the current Price Is Right host, but while that could be funny, I doubt that happens at any point in the movie.
The hockey slapshot has the best odds, but I like the idea of Happy getting injured. Perhaps he turns to coaching his son as a golfer or even becoming his caddy. I still think the best plot if they are going to do a Happy vs. Shooter rematch is for them to be the caddies of their young, rising star sons on the golf course. So, this is a hedge on that being the plot in thinking an injury will happen to Gilmore first.
What Will Shooter McGavin Do First?
BetOnline has a couple of options for what Shooter McGavin will do first in the movie, and both are references to things he did in the original:
- No-look putt (-150)
- Pop collar (+110)
I’d take the underdog here as we know what he can do on the golf course. But in perhaps bumping into Happy for the first time in years, it would be on brand for the character to pop his collar and attempt to show off in front of Happy.
Which Broadcaster Will Be Heard First?
BetOnline has 3 options for which announcer will be heard 1st in the film:
- Dan Patrick (+100)
- Jim Nantz (+150)
- David Feherty (+300)
Verne Lundquist was used in Happy Gilmore as the golf announcer. Personally, Jim Nantz is the voice I’d like to hear in the sequel, but let’s think about the conflicts of interest here. Nantz is Mr. CBS, a network involved with Paramount Plus. Happy Gilmore 2 is a Netflix movie, a rival streamer. Also, if they do the Ryder Cup angle, that’s usually an NBC broadcast instead of CBS.
Who has worked for NBC before, and more importantly, who has appeared in numerous Sandler movies, including The Waterboy, The Longest Yard, Grown Ups (plus Grown Ups 2), and also 2022’s Hustle on Netflix? That’s Dan Patrick. He is almost a no brainer here despite not being known best for golf.
But it doesn’t even have to be a golf broadcast. Patrick could just be breaking the news over sports radio about something that Happy is doing early in the movie. Feels like good value at +100.
Which Celebrities Will Make an Appearance?
BetOnline has a list of celebrities you can bet on to make an appearance, even if it’s just a cameo or playing themselves. Here are our favorite choices ranked from most confident to least confident:
- Allen Covert (+125): He played Otto the caddy in the original and has often been in Sandler’s movies as they are great friends.
- Ben Stiller (+100): There’s no real plot reason to include him as he played the orderly in Happy’s grandmother’s nursing home, but Stiller is a frequent collaborator with Sandler and comedies of this nature.
- Alice Cooper (+1000): A longshot, but Cooper is an avid golfer and has appeared as himself in a comedic nature before in Wayne’s World (1992) and Dark Shadows (2012).
Which PGA Tour Player Will Appear?
BetOnline also has some odds on some popular PGA golfers who could appear in Happy Gilmore 2. We know our top choice for this market.
While Tiger Woods (+200 at BetOnline) has the best odds here, he has never played as himself for laughs before in a movie or TV show according to IMDb’s acting credits.
The golfer to back here is world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler (+400), who could even make a reference to his May arrest for a little scuffle with a police officer as he tried to enter the tournament venue.
Who Will Be Seen First?
A lot of memorable characters from Happy Gilmore have passed away as the movie is 28 years old. But BetOnline has a market on which deceased actor will appear first in the sequel, likely through an archived flashback or perhaps a picture on Happy’s desk.
- Carl Weathers as Chubbs (-200)
- Bob Barker (+250)
- Frances Bay as Grandma (+400)
Some sort of tribute to Weathers seems very reasonable here, but I also think there’s value in betting on Grandma to be shown in a picture or something to that nature if Happy were to recap what’s happened since the last movie ended.
Will Happy and Shooter McGavin Have a Rematch?
Finally, there’s a prop bet on BetOnline on whether we’ll see Happy and Shooter McGavin have a rematch on the golf course.
- Yes (-200)
- No (+150)
Whether it’s in a tournament or just a random trip to the golf course, it seems very likely that these rivals will face off again with McDonald being the actor to really spill the beans that this sequel was happening in the first place. You have to figure he has a big role in the movie.
Fans want to see a rematch. The whole movie should be fan treatment, so we’re getting a rematch one way or another.
