Brayan Bello (13-7, 4.70 ERA, 1.38 WHIP) will start the third game of this four-game set against the Yankees after a solid showing on Monday night in which he held the Orioles to just two runs on three hits over 5.2 innings of work in a 12-3 Red Sox victory.
It was a respectable effort after the 25-year-old righty got roughed up by the Mets in his previous start when he permitted four runs on seven hits over five innings in a 4-1 loss.
Yankees Pitching Profile
Right-hander Gerrit Cole (6-4, 3.36 ERA, 1.24 WHIP) will take the bump for the Bombers and has strung together a series of quality starts since the beginning of August.
Throughout his last seven appearances spanning 40 innings of work, Cole has allowed a maximum of three runs only once. He looked sharp again in his previous outing when he allowed two runs (zero earned) and three hits over six full innings in a 2-1 loss to the Cubs on Sunday.
The Pick
The Yankees are just starting to put a little daylight between themselves and the second-place Orioles, which is an even further incentive to play well.
Gerrit Cole has been a monster over the last several weeks while Boston’s Brayan Bello has shown flashes of brilliance but has also been inconsistent. I don’t think laying the 1.5 runs with Cole is a bad idea but I’m still playing it safe and will lay the lumber on the home chalk.
