There are a lot of early games on today’s MLB slate, so make sure to get your bets in early. Here are three betting picks that I’ll be placing today.

Picks Summary

  • Astros -1.5 (-120)
  • Giants – White Sox Under 7.5 (-115)

Baltimore Orioles vs. Texas Rangers

Wednesday, April 05, 2023 – 02:05 PM EDT at Globe Life Field

Teams Analysis

Baltimore Orioles

The Baltimore Orioles will take on Jacob deGrom in the series finale tonight. deGrom’s last outing was terrible. But last year, he finished with a 1.90 xFIP and struck out 41.5% of batters. Don’t lose faith in deGrom.

The Orioles have been much better offensively this year. But dating back to last year, the team has a .173 ISO and wOBA of .323 with over 20% of strikeouts and just 8.4% of walks. After the top three batters in the Baltimore lineup, deGrom should take care of business with plenty of strikeouts.

Texas Rangers

Grayson Rodriguez was called up to pitch today’s game against the Rangers. He’s a top prospect with no experience, but he’s taking on a Rangers lineup that finished last year with a .151 ISO and wOBA of .282 against righties.

Texas’ lineup struck out over 25% of the time against righties last season. As long as Rodriguez doesn’t have the jitters, he’ll have the stuff to put together a fantastic performance against the Rangers today.

The Pick

I’m going to side with the two-star pitchers. Take the Under and make sure to go over our guide on the best Texas betting sites if you’re betting from the Lone Star State.

Detroit Tigers vs. Houston Astros

Wednesday, April 05, 2023 – 02:10 PM EDT at Minute Maid Park

Teams Analysis

Detroit Tigers

The Tigers have already done more in this series than anyone expected, having earned two straight against the Astros. But they’ll face Cristian Javier today, and things won’t be easy.

Javier struck out 33.1% of batters from last year and has a 4 xFIP. His walks will get high, and his ground ball rate will be low. But teams struggle to make contact with the ball in the first place.

The Tigers’ projected lineup has struck out 25.6% of the time against righties dating back to last season. The team also has a .149 ISO and wOBA of .294. Detroit’s offense will likely struggle in today’s game against Javier.

Houston Astros

The Astros could use a win right now. They’ll face Eduardo Rodriguez, who has a 5.02 xFIP from last year. He’s struck out under 19% of batters and walked close to 9%.

Houston’s offense hasn’t struggled. They’ve been playing in higher-scoring games recently. Houston’s offense has hit a .193 ISO and wOBA of .356 against lefties with its projected lineup using last year’s stats. This team also struck out under 19% of the time against lefties and walked 10.2% of the time.

The Pick

I’ve got the Astros winning big today at -120 betting odds.

San Francisco Giants vs. Chicago White Sox

Wednesday, April 05, 2023 – 02:10 PM EDT at Guaranteed Rate Field

Teams Analysis

San Francisco Giants

Dylan Cease will get the start for the White Sox against the Giants. He finished his first start holding a 1.42 ERA and looked good. Today, he’ll face a Giants lineup that struck out 24.7% of the time against righties dating back to last year.

The Giants have hit a .169 ISO and wOBA of .316, which isn’t terrible, but hitting Cease will still be a challenge. Cease struck out nearly 31% of batters and finished last year with an xFIP a little above 4. But he’s improving every year and looks like a Cy Young candidate this year.

Chicago White Sox

The White Sox will face Logan Webb, who made mistakes in his Opening Day start; but he also struck out ten batters and had some excellent stuff in that game.

Webb ended last year with a 3.51 xFIP. He struck out only 21.6% of batters, but after last week’s game, there’s a chance that his strikeout numbers will increase. He’s more of a ground ball pitcher and earned 57% of ground balls last season.

He’s also facing a White Sox lineup that walked only 6.5% of the time against rightie last season. The White Sox had an ISO of .134 and wOBA of .301 against righties.

The Pick

Webb and Cease both looked electric in their first starts of the season. There’s no reason why both will struggle in today’s game, so let’s back the Under.
