Top Golf Pick: Justin Thomas to Win Outright (+4500) at Bovada (visit our Bovada Review)
We take in the second season ending event in the FedEx playoffs at TPC Southwind in Memphis, the FedEx St. Jude Championship. The event sees the top 70 in the FedEx standings play down to 50 for next week’s BMW Championship.
Interestingly, the year’s top two golfers Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele have underwhelming records at this event making them more opposable than many recent weeks on the PGA Tour, let’s analyze the betting odds from top sportsbooks.
FedEx St. Jude Championship 2024
August 15 – 18, 2024 at TPC Southwind
Course Notes
- TPC Southwind
- Par 70, 7244 yards
- Memphis, Tennessee

- A vert strategic test of a golfer. Those who are long and straight off the tee do have a slight advantage, but there is not much room for error with reasonably tight fairways and water on eleven holes to catch the inaccurate golfer.
- The Bermuda Greens are on the smaller side for the PGA Tour so that again requires accuracy making hitting fairways an important foundation for a good week.
Previous FedEx St. Jude Championship Winners (Since 2017)
No Doubt Thomas in Memphis
There have been many question marks around Justin Thomas's game in the last couple of years with his game seemingly leaving him in 2023 and relying on a controversial captain’s pick for the Ryder Cup.
Maybe after consolidating his position just below the top of golf in 2024 (top 20 on FedEx standings), there are enough reasons to stop doubting Thomas and start considering his chances of winning tournaments again.
This week could be the time to do that with the thirty-one-year-old from Louisville, Kentucky, who starts fast and gets back in the winner’s circle.
If you look at the bare bones of his foray across the Atlantic his finishing positions at the Scottish Open and Open Championship don’t catch the eye, because he figured prominently over the opening two or three days only to fall away over the weekend. He was first round leader at the Scottish Open with 62 and then the week after started with 68 at the Open.
The Picks
Those two alone combined with his strong record in Memphis make Thomas an auto first-round leader pick, while also supporting him in the outright market to win his second St. Jude Championship.

Can Aaron Rai inspire Tommy Fleetwood?
Will fellow Englishman Aaron Rai winning last week’s Wyndham Championship inspire compatriot Tommy Fleetwood that this week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship is his turn in the winner’s enclosure on the PGA Tour?
Both Englishmen have suffered their fair share of disappointment with several agonisingly close shaves so last week’s win for Rai could be the boost that Fleetwood needs.
Entering this week in Memphis, Englishman Tommy Fleetwood has it all to play for with his FedEx ranking just outside the important top 30, where the cut off lands for the Tour Championship in two weeks' time. This week will be the obvious one for Fleetwood to lock up his entry, given the thirty-three-year-old has shown a previous liking for TPC Southwind when he 3rd last year and 4th in 2019.
With Scheffler and Schauffele far from unbeatable over the years in Memphis, this looks like the sort of week that Fleetwood could get the monkey off his back and finally win his maiden PGA Tour event. Having taken last week off after an incredible effort at Le Paris National when the proud Englishman managed a silver medal for Great Britain, his spirits should be buoyed nicely for his return to TPC Southwind.
