Monday’s series openers left a trio of teams needing a win on Tuesday to even their sets. That includes the Mets who fell late to the Cubs. Is the betting value on New York to level the series or is Chicago the best pick to take a 2-0 lead?

Chicago Cubs vs. New York Mets
Tuesday, April 30, 2024 – 07:10 PM ET at Citi Field
Following Luis Severino’s no-hit bid on Monday, both Chicago’s Javier Assad (2-0, 2.00) and New York’s Sean Manaea (1-1, 3.33) have a tough act to follow. Top-rated sportsbooks like the Mets on a -130 moneyline to pull even in the first meeting of the season between the old foes.
Second Career Start vs. Mets for Assad
Assad has been a pleasant addition to the Cubs’ rotation, but one thing to keep in mind is how gingerly Chicago is treating him with only one start going past the 90-pitch plateau.
That has generally been the same story for Manaea, who reached the 100-pitch mark his last time out after averaging under 90 tosses the previous 4 starts. He still couldn’t get through the fifth inning at 101 tosses last Wednesday in San Francisco, failing to qualify for the dubya in the 8-2 Mets victory.
Slight Chance of Showers in Queens
Chicago’s late rally on Monday went against the trend a year ago when home teams won 4 of the 6 meetings, but the 3-1 final was in line with the MLB odds staying ‘under’ the totals in 5 of the last 7 meetings in New York.
With Carlos Torres (2-3 O/U) behind the dish on Tuesday, we’ll look for that ‘under’ trend to continue between the Cubs and Mets.
