It’s Jackie Robinson Day on the Major League Baseball betting card, and that means all 30 teams are scheduled to take the field to honor one of the most influential sports figures ever.

One of the final matchups of the day will be played in front of a sparse crowd out in Oakland where the Athletics welcome the St. Louis Cardinals for one of three interleague battles on the MLB odds board.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Oakland Athletics

Monday, April 15, 2024 – 09:40 PM ET at Oakland Coliseum

Mired in the cellar of the NL Central, St. Louis hopes a 3-game stop in Oakland will help change that. Sonny Gray (1-0, 0.00) takes the mound for the Cardinals opposite Ross Stripling (0-3, 5.50) of the Athletics.

1st Interleague Series for Cards in 2024

Signed to a 3-year deal in the offseason, Gray was slowed during Spring Training by a hamstring injury before finally making his Cardinals debut last week against the Phillies. He worked 5 shutout innings, striking out 5 and allowing 5 hits to get the win.

Oakland acquired Stripling in a deal with neighbor San Francisco, and it has been tough sledding for the veteran who has dropped all 3 starts for the A’s. This will be his first start against the Cardinals since a loss in St. Louis in April 2019.

A’s Have Won 7 of Last 9 Meetings

The Cardinals took 2 of 3 from the Athletics in St. Louis last season, with two of the contest just squeaking in ‘under’ the totals. Oakland won both matchups the last time the teams met at the Coliseum (2019), with the totals splitting.

Neither offense has shown me much, leading to another free MLB pick on the final coming up short.
