Recent Champions

Will It Be a Texas Hat-Trick for Conners?

This week’s defending champion Corey Conners goes for a third and record-equalling win in the Valero Texas Open.  The thirty-two-year-old Canadian could join Arnold Palmer and Justin Leonard as the only triple winners of the PGA Tour event that was established over one hundred years ago in 1922.

Interestingly, Conners has not played for the last couple of weeks since a solid Players Championship 13th and looks primed for a strong two weeks here and at the Masters next week.

This event will always hold special memories for Conners having gone through Monday Qualifying in 2019 to get his start and then going on to winning it for his big breakthrough at the longshot price of (+10000).  Despite his high level of consistency since on the PGA Tour rocketing him up the world rankings, his only other tournament win was here last year when he did it impressively once again at (+2500) after which he told how those good memories helped.

“I had been feeling really good about my game and looking forward to getting back here to San Antonio. When I won in 2019, it was different, a real roller-coaster final round. I dug deep on the back nine, so I tried to channel that part of it today.” Conners said.

The Picks

There is nothing not to like this week about Corey Conners' chances of a third Valero Texas Open. Here at BMR, we advise you to take the (+2200) with our best sportsbook of Bovada combined with a bet on a top 10 finish.

Can Lee Hodges Win the Texas Open?

Yes, there are several strong indicators that Lee Hodges is ready to win this week’s Valero Texas Open. Hodges was an impressive 6th last year around TPC San Antonio, when you consider he started the week poorly with a round of 74.

If that does not telegraph the twenty-eight-year-old chances this week enough, then look back to 2020 when again he put up a solid week on the Korn Ferry tour here, finishing 14th.

Since those results the Alabama man has moved upwards in professional golf with a maiden win at last year’s 3M Open at the end of July by seven strokes.

After a slow beginning to his 2024 campaign, Hodges is steadily but surely finding his best form with four top-35 finishes in his last five tournaments, in what has been a period of tough tests on the PGA Tour

Last week’s Houston Open not being on Hodges' schedule should be a blessing in disguise to help him freshen up his game for this week’s test in the same State.

The Picks

Let’s trust Lee Hodges to take his recent solid form up a notch and should he do that, he has a chance to win this week’s Valero Texas Open. Our best sportsbook price is (+8000) with Bovada so take that with a top 10 finish.
