Vitor Petrino vs. Tyson Pedro
UFC Vegas 87 Light Heavyweight Bout
Petrino: The Story So Far
Brazilian prospect Vitor Petrino returns to the octagon this weekend in an attempt to extend his undefeated record and continue building on an impressive 3-0 UFC record since joining the promotion nearly a year ago.
- Petrino Pro MMA Record: 10-4-0
- Petrino Knockout Wins: 7
- Petrino Submission Wins: 1
Pedro: The Story So Far
Despite the seemingly small pro record, Tyson Pedro has been around the block at light heavyweight and will be entering his 11th UFC bout this weekend. It hasn’t been plain sailing. However, he undoubtedly possesses the experience advantage, although the moneyline price doesn’t reflect this.
- Pedro Pro MMA Record: 10-4-0
- Pedro Knockout Wins: 5
- Pedro Submission Wins: 5
UFC Vegas 87 Petrino vs. Pedro: Skillset Breakdown
We’ve watched Pedro become the victim of takedown attempts, and thus far, he hasn’t really fought any standout wrestlers or grapplers. Now, he’ll face a fiercely well-rounded opponent in Petrino, a fighter who can match his power on the feet and also fall back on a plan B in the form of grappling.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand the best path to victory for Petrino.
Pedro is a menacing power puncher who’ll be looking to head hunt early; as a result, if Petrino decides to grapple, he can not only drain his opponent’s gas tank but likely outclass him in all scrambling situations and potentially find a TKO or submission finish.
Petrino Moneyline Reasoning
Pedro hasn’t looked great whenever he’s fought beyond the first round. Sure, the power in his hands will be a threat. Still, we must consider the long game here, and Petrino has the most advantages in every other area, including cardio, BJJ, wrestling, grappling and durability.
There’s a reason why the lesser-experienced fighter enters this bout with a juiced -305 moneyline, and that’s because he’s the more talented mixed martial artist of the two and should handle the early threat from Pedro before finishing the fight in a grounded situation, whether it be by ground and pound or submission.

Christian Leroy Duncan vs. Claudio Ribeiro
UFC Vegas 87 Middleweight Bout
Duncan: The Story So Far
Former Cage Warriors’ champion Christian Leroy Duncan seems to be settling in nicely at his new position as a UFC middleweight. A debut win over Dusko Todorovic may have been via injury. Still, he looked incredibly slick in the octagon before this unfortunate event occurred.
Unfortunately, his second bout resulted in a unanimous decision defeat. However, no shame here. Armen Petrosyan is no joke, and he bounced back beautifully with a TKO win over Denis Tiuliulin in November 2023.
- Duncan Pro MMA Record: 9-1-0
- Duncan Knockout Wins: 7
- Duncan Submission Wins: 1
Ribeiro: The Story So Far
Where do we start with Claudio Ribeiro? The man is a menace of a fighter, but that’s also the problem; he’s a ‘fighter’ and not a mixed martial artist.
Eleven pro career wins and 11 knockouts have arrived through a sheer desire to commit heinous violence inside the cage. In contrast, once he’s faced with diversity and elite-level skills, an array of complications have arisen for the Brazilian brute.
- Ribeiro Pro MMA Record: 11-4-0
- Ribeiro Knockout Wins: 11
- Ribeiro Submission Wins: 0
UFC Vegas 87 Duncan vs. Ribeiro: Skillset Breakdown
It’s a round one or bust situation for Ribeiro. Therefore, it’s Duncan’s job to avoid the early onslaught and force this fight into the second and maybe third rounds. However, I don’t believe Ribeiro has the cardio to survive three rounds at this level, as witnessed in his lopsided TKO defeats to Abdul Razak Alhassan and Roman Kopylov.
While he isn’t the head-hunting, aggressive-natured fighter like Ribeiro, Duncan will be the masterful striking tactician in this contest, owning the greater footwork, head movement, defensive attributes and counterstriking ability.
Duncan Moneyline Reasoning
An early knockout is always on the cards when Ribeiro fights.
Still, he lacks so many of the skills required to compete at this level it’s difficult to back him, especially when he’s faced with well-rounded opponents such as Duncan.
Again, we’re dealing with a juiced ML with the available odds. However, I believe they’re justified, as Duncan’s only cautions will be present in the first five minutes of the bout.
