Loma Lookboonmee vs. Bruna Brasil
UFC Vegas 86 Women’s Strawweight Bout
Loma Lookboonmee: The Story So Far
Behind a decorated career in Muay Thai kickboxing, Loma Lookboonmee’s pairing with the Bangtao MMA gym was perfect. She entered the UFC predominantly as a striker. Still, after seven fights with the promotion, her grappling and offensive wrestling abilities have undoubtedly shone through, thanks to the coaches at Bangtao.
- Lookboonmee Pro MMA Record: 8-3-0
- Lookboonmee Knockout Wins: 1
- Lookboonmee Submission Wins: 1
Bruna Brasil: The Story So Far
Bruna Brasil has presented a similar game plan in most of her pro-MMA bouts to date. She likes to strike at range and is comfortable in that position. Since joining the UFC, she’s gone 1-1, but the level of competition she’s faced is significantly lower than her weekend opponent.
- Brasil Pro MMA Record: 9-3-1
- Brasil Knockout Wins: 3
- Brasil Submission Wins: 2
UFC Vegas 86 Lookboonmee vs. Brasil: Skillset Breakdown
Lookboonmee ticks all the boxes.
She owns respectable Muay Thai credentials with excellent striking and trips. Her wrestling evolution has become a problem for most of her opponents (5-2 UFC), although her small size has certainly been an unfortunate disadvantage.
For Brasil, her love of striking and questionable takedown defense is possibly the worst set of skills to possess against an opponent of Loma’s caliber. That goes without mentioning the significant lack of experience against high-level opponents.
Lookboonmee Moneyline Reasoning
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Lookboonmee succeed on the feet; however, I expect wrestling and top control advantage to play out eventually.
The steep -260 will soon become justified.

Hyder Amil vs. Fernie Garcia
UFC Vegas 86 Featherweight Bout
Hyder Amil: The Story So Far
Following a dominant DWCS unanimous decision win, aged 33, Hyder Amil will finally make his UFC debut this weekend in Vegas.
Don’t let the small pro record and non-existent UFC experience allow you to doubt his capabilities.
With LFA and Bellator experience in his back pocket, Amil slowly built himself to this point of his career with an unblemished record and zero losses in MMA since an amateur bout in 2014.
- Amil Pro MMA Record: 8-0-0
- Amil Knockout Wins: 4
- Amil Submission Wins: 1
Fernie Garcia: The Story So Far
It could be Fernie Garcia’s swan song in the Apex on Saturday, as the former bantamweight representing Mexico moves up a weight class on short notice in an attempt to correct his current 0-3 UFC record.
Unfortunately, it’s hard to credit Garcia as a UFC-worthy fighter. A 10-1 record looked impressive prior to joining the big leagues. Still, his skill set deficiencies have been displayed since entering the UFC and suffering three consecutive defeats.
- Garcia Pro MMA Record: 10-4-0
- Garcia Knockout Wins: 1
- Garcia Submission Wins: 3
UFC Vegas 86 Amil vs. Garcia: Skillset Breakdown
Amil has received a pleasant welcome to the UFC roster with an opponent in Garcia. He’s aggressive, sometimes reckless, but always willing to go to war for another win on his record. Most importantly, he has proven his ability to return from a grounded position, as he undoubtedly wants to stand and exchange blows with the Mexican at Vegas 86.
Garcia’s primary path to victory would be via a grappling game plan. However, he truly has not proven himself in this realm to date, and a short-notice contest up a weight class won’t enhance his grappling potential.
Hyder Amil Moneyline Reasoning
Not only does this contest feel like a set-up fight for Amil’s introduction to the UFC roster, but the American also trumps his opponent when comparing their technical abilities punch-for-punch.
The odds favor the octagon newcomer, and an 8-0-0 record may seem like nothing to run home about. Still, Garcia hasn’t shown a hunger to compete at the highest level and will likely be overwhelmed by Amil’s aggressive forward pressure.
