  • Main Event: Sodiq Yusuff vs. Edson Barboza (UFC Featherweight Bout)

Edgar Chairez vs. Daniel Lacerda

UFC Catchweight Bout

Chairez: The Story So Far

Edgar Chairez (10-5-0) entered the UFC with an unfortunate piece of matchmaking and lost to the highly touted Tatsuro Taira. Painfully, just when Chairez put himself into the win column last time out, a round submission win over Daniel Lacerda was reversed to a no-contest.

There’s been much debate about this decision. Still, and rightfully so, the UFC has rescheduled the bout for UFC Vegas 81, and the Mexican receives his opportunity to redeem the lost dub he previously captured.

Lacerda: The Story So Far

It’s challenging to credit the skillset of Daniel Lacerda (11-5-0) after watching him lose four (five if you include the NC) straight UFC bouts inside the distance. He debuted in 2022, and it’s been downhill ever since, with a 0-4 UFC record and one no-contest that he arguably lost as well.

Chairez vs. Lacerda: The Breakdown

The stylistic matchup of Chairez and Lacerda has already provided three minutes of action for us to evaluate, and we shouldn’t expect the rematch to deliver much difference.

Despite the athletic commission’s decision to reverse it, I believed it was a submission win for Chairez. And with that said, I wouldn’t be surprised to see an identical outcome.

Unless the Mexican has suffered a serious injury, such as going blind, please explain how Lacerda can deploy a game plan that will succeed after the dominance we witnessed in the first meeting.

Chairez Moneyline Reasoning

It’s simple: Lacerda doesn’t boast a UFC caliber of skills, and while Chairez isn’t a world-beater, he’s unquestionably levels above the Brazilian.

The available UFC odds favor Chairez, and rightfully so. Hit the juiced moneyline because it’s almost a perfect parlay addition with a small probability of losing.

Jennifer Maia vs. Viviane Araujo

UFC Women’s Flyweight Bout

Maia: The Story So Far

The former Invicta FC champion Jennifer Maia (21-9-1) is a household name in the women’s flyweight division, and despite losing her championship opportunity versus Valentina Shevchenko in 2020, she gave the champ one of her toughest paths to victory in recent years.

Maia has won 3 of her previous 5 bouts; she’s riding a two-fight win streak and will own a significant experience advantage over her opponent this Saturday.

Araujo: The Story So Far

Brazil’s Viviane Araujo (11-5-0) is one tough cookie. A 5-4 UFC record isn’t the prettiest, but none of those opponents, including the current champ Alexa Grasso, could stop this warrior via KO/TKO or submission.

Moving forward, I wouldn’t expect a title run from Araujo. Aged 36, she’s riding a two-fight losing streak, and this could be a sign that her competitive nature is beginning to slow down.

Maia vs. Araujo: Skillset Breakdown

Araujo has displayed some excellent striking offenses during her pro career, but regarding MMA fundamentals, I cannot ignore Maia and her chance of victory this weekend.

We’re looking at two veterans in Maia and Araujo. Still, the former has undoubtedly fought a higher level of competition during her UFC tenure, and her style to crash forward and implement the cage into a grappling gameplan can stunt and hold the opposition from scoring points.

Maia Moneyline Reasoning

The range, speed, and positioning of Araujo will be imperative for her to find success this weekend. With a respected fight IQ, we must believe that Maia knows a grappling game plan can give her a simple path to victory.

The available odds at the top sportsbooks are providing a -155 price on Maia, the idealistic companion for our -310 moneyline on Chairez, as we’re now looking at plus money on the parlay.
