For the second time in a month, we’re disappointed without an All-Japanese mound duel between the Padres and Cubs, but it’s still a dandy pitching clash when San Diego sends Yu Darvish (1-1, 3.45) to the hill in Chicago against Justin Steele (0-0, 1.93).
Steele Making 1st Start After DL Stint
Darvish only lasted 3 innings against the Cubs a month ago in their series in San Diego, and was charged with 4 runs. The Padres bailed him out by rallying from an 8-0 deficit to win 9-8, and San Diego subsequently won his next 2 starts.
Steele is coming off the DL after straining a hamstring on Opening Day, and made just 1 ugly rehab start at Triple-A last week. He beat the Padres with 5+ shutout innings at Wrigley last year.
‘Under’ Cashes 7 of Last 10 Meetings at Wrigley
San Diego won 2 of the 3 when the clubs met a month ago at Petco, both of the Padres’ wins going ‘over’ while the Cubs’ lone victory fell short of the total.
