Top NHL Pick: Colorado Avalanche -1.5 PK Line (-110) at BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review)
Tuesday’s NHL betting card is one of the best we have seen in a long time for matchups, the picks were falling off the page at us. With that said, here are three of our favorite selections ahead of tonight’s action.
We are taking the Oilers to get back to winning ways in New York, Quinn Hughes looks to put an end to his cold streak, while Chicago should be an easy out for the Avalanche despite the latter being on the road. Let’s go through the analysis and see what are the best options at our main offshore sportsbooks.
Edmonton Oilers vs. New York Islanders
Tuesday, December 19, 2023 – 07:30 PM ET at UBS Arena
Oilers Can Get Back to Winning Ways on Road
After an early season slump, the Edmonton Oilers finally strung a few wins together, as they won 8 games in a row to give themselves a chance of staying alive in the playoff race. But things didn’t go well for them during their trip to Florida with a 7-4 defeat against Tampa Bay and a 5-1 loss against the Panthers. The Oilers are now looking to get back to winning ways during their visit to New York.
We could not believe the odds available on the Oilers to cover the -1.5 PK line at +170 despite being on the road in this NHL matchup.
The Pick
Despite the Islanders being mediocre this season and covering the spread in their previous eight home games, this is Edmonton we are talking about. They are more than capable of putting up goals here and, although they lack defense, it might play into their hands knowing the Islanders haven’t got a formidable offense.
Despite winning just three of their previous ten road games, the Oilers managed to cover the spread on all three occasions, meaning we are hopeful that a victory will be by two or more goals. Given the fact Edmonton are -130 to win this game, we are more than happy to lay -1.5 goals on them in tonight’s matchup.

Vancouver Cancuks vs. Nashville Predators
Tuesday, December 19, 2023 – 08:00 PM ET at Bridgestone Arena
Quinn Hughes (Vancouver Canucks)
Quinn Hughes and Cale Maker are currently two of the best two-way defencemen in the NHL right now with both players level on 30 assists for the season. It’s going to be an intriguing battle to see who comes out on top come the end of the regular season.
Both Hughes and Maker have the highest number of assists for defensemen in the NHL at the time of writing and have both the 3rd joint most assists overall.
We are taking a look at Hughes to grab an assist tonight on the road as he has been going through a cold patch recently, despite having three against the Tampa Bay Lightning four games ago. He has failed to score a single point in his previous three games and has only done so in 2 of 8 games this December.
The Pick
With that said we are backing Hughes to get back on the board tonight on the road against a Nashville Predators team, who have allowed just over 3 goals per game (average) but they face the Vancouver Canucks, who are this season’s top goalscorer’s per game with 3.75.
Nashville has done well recently on home ice, allowing only four goals in their previous three games, but they could be in for a rude awakening tonight when Vancouver visits town.
We like the current odds on Hughes to see an assist in this game at -110, as he has yet to go four games this season without an assist, meaning he will do so for the first time tonight if he fails to set up a goal, but we wouldn’t bet against it.
NHL Pick: Quinn Hughes Over 0.5 Assists (-110) at BetOnline
Colorado Avalanche vs. Chicago Blackhawks
Tuesday, December 19, 2023 – 08:30 PM ET at United Center
Colorado to Breeze Past the Windy City
Despite the Colorado Avalanche being on the road and laying juice on the PK line, we really can’t see an easier bet tonight as they take on the Chicago Blackhawks, who have the 3rd worst defense, whilst Colorado boasts the 3rd best offense.
The Avalanche should be very determined to win this game, as their current road streak is sitting at 0-4. That said, Chicago only has an overall home record sitting at 5-8-1.
The Pick
The Colorado Avalanche have beaten the spread in the windy city on 50% of their previous ten visits. The Blackhawks have been very poor lately at covering the +1.5 spread, having lost by 6/3 and 2 goals during their previous three losses (only managing to cover it during a 4-3 loss last time out).
This is a matchup between the top team and the bottom team in the Central division, so it’s no surprise we are laying -110 on the Avalanche to cover the spread, and we believe they stand a very good chance of doing so tonight.
