Picks Summary:

  • Flyers vs. Blues – Over 6.5 (-110)
  • Blackhawks vs. Flames – Flames -1.5 (-153)
  • Avalanche vs. Sharks – Avalanche -1.5 (+112)

It’s a full Tuesday night slate of NHL action and the total in the Flyers/Blues is looking like a bucketful of goals will be scored as we go over the posted total in that one.

Let’s review the NHL odds in that contest, as well as two more of our best bets, and keep cashing our NHL picks!

Philadelphia Flyers vs. St. Louis Blues

Tuesday, April 04, 2023 – 08:00 PM EDT at Enterprise Center

Totals are not routinely part of my NHL picks analysis but when opportunity knocks, I not only answer the door but embrace it like a long last brother. Hopefully, this brother will give me a warm hug and not a cold shiv in the back but I like the way this matchup is trending even if the Flyers are in the league’s scoring basement.

Speaking of Philadelphia, the Flyers’ defense is porous, to say the least, and two of their last three games have gone over the posted total in which an average of eight goals per game have been scored over those three contests.

On the other end of the ice, the Blues have gone over the posted total in their last seven consecutive games with an average of nearly nine goals per game being deposited in those matchups. The St. Louis offense has caught fire, registering a whopping 5.14 goals per contest over their last seven, and against a woeful defense like Philadelphia’s, they should get at least that many.

Let’s look at a few total trends to make this wager more palatable.

  • Over is 6-1 in Flyers' last 7 vs. the Western Conference.
  • Over is 6-2 in Flyers' last 8 Tuesday games.
  • Over is 7-3 in Flyers' last 10 overall.
  • Over is 4-0 in Blues' last 4 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game.
  • Over is 5-0 in Blues' last 5 games playing on 1 day’s rest.
  • Over is 5-1 in Blues' last 6 vs. a team with a winning % below .400.

Chicago Blackhawks vs. Calgary Flames

Tuesday, April 04, 2023 - 09:00 PM EDT at Scotiabank Saddledome

The last time these clubs met the lowly Blackhawks pulled the upset, defeating the Flames, 5-1, and cashing as a huge +350 moneyline favorite. But that was then and this is now, which means stalwart defenseman Jake McCabe, center Sam Lafferty, team points leader Max Domi, and of course, the incomparable Patrick Kane were all on the team at that time.

Those players have been subsequently dealt away as the Blackhawks go into tank mode, enhancing their chances in the Connor Bedard Sweepstakes. This is a team that doesn’t want to win and management is doing everything it can to see to it that they don’t.

Meanwhile, Calgary enters this meeting on a four-game winning streak but the prevailing moneyline odds make it too pricey to bet them flat so we must, unfortunately, make a bet on the puck line. I say unfortunately because only one of Calgary’s wins over their four-game streak has been by more than a goal.

So that’s my caveat emptor if you are inclined, as I am, to bet the Flames on the puck line. However, note this; the Blackhawks have lost their last seven contests all by two or more goals!

Colorado Avalanche vs. San Jose Sharks

Tuesday, April 04, 2023 - 10:30 PM EDT at SAP Center

There is early action on the Canucks in this game which means the line has come down just a bit on the visiting favorites. However, that speaks more to the Canucks getting their groove on at an enticing price for a home dog on a mild heater (3-game winning streak) than it does about any deficiencies on the Avalanche roster.

If you didn’t know it, the Avs are jockeying for position in a three-horse race to win the Central Division crown. They are tied with the Stars and trail the Wild by just one point but have a game in hand on both. The last time these teams met, less than a month ago, the Avs skated away to a dominating 6-0 victory on their home ice. And although the venue has shifted to San Jose, I don’t see the result being much different.

Lay the 1.5 goals and allow yourself to get paid the juice instead of laying it. For Centennial State residents looking to bet on this game, you can do it at our top Colorado betting sites.
