Mexico Open at Vidanta 2024

February 22 – 25, 2024, at Vidanta, Vallarta

Course Notes

  • Lengthy Par 71 at 7456 yards with only three par-5s
  • Designer – Greg Norman
  • Greens – Paspalum, which often plays slightly slower than most PGA Tour weeks because of the heavy grain.
  • Wide fairways and non-invasive rough.
  • Correlations – Primary course correlations concentrate on the other South American tracks used for the Puerto Rico Open or the Corales Puntacana Championship, or even the old Mayakoba venue now used on the LIV Golf Tour, all of which have a similar agronomy.

Weather Forecast

Currently, it looks like a settled forecast for the golfers this week with light winds and mainly dry weather, meaning low scoring should produce a winning score of more than 20-under par.

Is Jake a Knapp Bet in Mexico?

Where I come from, the phrase “Nap Bet” is used for a handicapper’s favorite bet of the day. Well, Jake Knapp is my idea of my best bet this week in Mexico.

The case for the twenty-nine-year-old Californian is simply and mostly based on his recent performances.

The first of those efforts was an eye-catching one at the Farmers Insurance Open. He finished in third-place to spring his big-hitting profile into public prominence.

It could be argued that there are several correlations with results at the Farmers given the 2022 Mexico Open winner, Jon Rahm, was a course specialist at Torrey Pines. To argue the point further, it would be prudent to add that Rahm also won the US Open at Torrey Pines. Also, last year’s winner, Tony Finau, has been a mainstay of the higher echelons of many leaderboards at the Farmers.

Furthermore, to this breakthrough result, Knapp followed up well at the Phoenix Open when finishing in 28th. The final caveat is that several of his best Korn Ferry Tour results have been in South America, both in Mexico and Colombia.

So there is much to recommend Knapp this week.

In a year of shocking results, it is easy to make a case for Jake Knapp’s chances. We suggest taking your win dividend at the price of (+3300) combined with the top 10 price of (+400).

Martin Trainer Plays Well in South America

Whenever the PGA Tour moves down into South America for an event, one of the first names to check out on the entry list is Martin Trainer.

Trainer is something of a golfing nomad, flicking between tours and plying his trade wherever he can.

This well-traveled French American golfer really enjoys his forays into this part of the world with nearly all his best career performances and three of his four career wins coming in this neck of the woods.

Martin Trainer’s South American Tournament Wins

  • 2019 Puerto Rico Open – Champion
  • 2018 El Bosque Mexico Championship – Champion
  • 2016 Mazatlan Open – Champion (Mexico)

To illustrate further the thirty-two-year-old’s affinity with the South American agronomy, he finished runner-up in the 2016 Peru Open, seventh in the Corales Puntacana Championship of 2022 and, very importantly, Trainer finished 11th here in 2022.

Catching our eye further, Trainer’s most recent start was also in South America on the Korn Ferry tour, when he finished 8th at the Astara Golf Championship.

To conclude this week’s best bets, take Martin Trainer at the price of (+30000) combined with a top-10 finish.
