It’s going to be even cooler in Milwaukee with the thermometer in the low-40s at game time, so expect the roof to be shut at old Miller Park when the Mariners send Logan Gilbert (0-0, 1.29) to the mound to face Freddy Peralta (1-0, 1.50) and the Brewers.
Both Hurlers Off Impressive Season Debuts
He wasn’t around for the eventual win, a 4-3 Seattle decision in 10, but Gilbert was a big part of getting the Mariners there with 7 innings and just a run allowed last week at home against the Red Sox. Gilbert allowed a couple of homers to the Brewers in a no-decision last year.
Peralta was magnificent in his season debut, beating the Mets with 6 innings of 1-hit baseball while striking out 8. He’ll be facing the Mariners for the first time in a long relief outing against them in 2019.
Power Down on Both Sides
Neither the Mariners nor the Brewers have exhibited much home run punch in the early going. Seattle has just 4 HR and is hitting under .200 as a team so far, and lead the AL in striking out as Julio Rodriguez and J.P. Crawford struggle.
Milwaukee has banged just 5 HR, tied for last in the NL, but has a few hitters that come into this series raking with Christian Yelich (.368) and Brice Turang (.438) leading the charge.
This is another matchup that favored the visitors last season when Milwaukee swept 3 in Seattle and the Mariners took 2 of 3 on the Brewers’ diamond. With some tight moneylines at top sportsbooks, I’m inclined to back Seattle on Friday.
