Nothing’s ever set in stone in the NHL, but this was one of the worst mismatches of round one. With the Carolina Hurricanes as low as -250 NHL betting odds to advance past the Islanders and following a solid 3-1 win last time out, we expect more of the same from the team who are now the overall favorites to lift the Stanley Cup at +650 betting odds.
The Hurricanes still need to win three more games to advance into round two but with two games coming up on the road we believe they will be strong enough to take a 2-0 lead into New York.
Carolina is one of the best defensive units in the league, while the Islanders are one of the worst offensive teams to make the playoffs. We said from game one this would be over in 4 or 5 games max and we will stand by our statement.
