Milwaukee Brewers vs. Cincinnati Reds

Monday, April 08, 2024 – 06:40 PM ET at Great American Ball Park

With the NL Central expected to be a dogfight this season, all division matchups will be huge. The Brewers and Reds will get their first taste of those battles Monday in the opener of a set in Cincinnati where BetOnline rates the contest a pick ‘em on the moneyline.

Will Reds Give Ashcraft Any Support?

Milwaukee is sending Aaron Ashby (0-0, 0.00) to the bump for his first big league appearance since October 2022. He had shoulder surgery early in 2023, and most Cincinnati hitters will be facing the southpaw for the first time.

Graham Ashcraft (0-1, 3.00) enjoyed a nice outing last week in Philadelphia, allowing 3 runs – 2 earned – in 6 innings but didn’t get much support in a loss. The Reds lost all 3 of his starts against the Brewers last season, failing to support Ashcraft in 2 of them.

Brewers & ‘Under’ Were Winning Bets Last Year

The Brewers won the NL Central last year by dominating the division, and part of that domination was winning 10 of the 13 matchups with Cincinnati while totals ran 4-9 O/U on the MLB odds. Milwaukee took 6 of the 7 at GABP where the totals went 2-5 O/U.

Like much of the country in the path of Monday’s eclipse, clouds are expected to cover the Cincinnati area. The good news is those clouds aren’t expected to bring any rain, and my play will be to run contrary to last year’s scoreboard trend with a wager on the ‘over.’
