The spread odds for this game see the Rams as prohibitive home favorites with the line over 2 TDs, and a total of around 50 points, meaning the best online bookmakers believe the Lions will be scoring 18 points or so. Read on to take a look at the NFL odds and a full analysis of this game.

Detroit Lions vs. Los Angeles Rams

Sunday, October 24, 2021 – 04:05 PM EDT at SoFi Stadium

When these two teams traded QBs in the summer it was considered a win for both teams, the Rams paid a fortune to get Matthew Stafford in and for someone to take Jared Goff's contract while the Lions got a QB with experience in the league and a bundle of picks for the future.

It looks like that’s playing out with the Rams' odds for the Superbowl shortening on a weekly basis, and the Lions losing every game and enabling themselves to get a higher pick in next year’s draft.

Can the Lions Pull off a Shock?

Last week’s loss to the Bengals looked like the narrow losses to the Ravens and Vikings had hurt the team and they looked terrible, especially in the first half where they had 41 yards of offense. It was an unenthusiastic performance against a team in good form.

That performance lead head coach Dan Campbell to call out his quarterback in the post-match press conference, saying Goff needs to step up more than he has” It was a remarkable quote after just 6 games on such a talent-deficient roster.".

Goff is who he is, he won’t raise the team around him but he’ll make good players look good and there are not many good players on that team.

D’Andre Swift is their main way of moving the ball on the ground or through the air as he gets a lot of targets from the backfield. They need TJ Hockenson healthy to help out as the most targeted player on the team, he leads them in receiving yards this year, other than those two they’re relying on rookie Amon-Ra St. Brown and Kaliff Raymond to move the ball.

It’s a tough situation, especially with so many injuries depleting their defense so they struggle getting stops as well. I don’t see any chance of the Lions winning.

Will the Rams Cover?

That’s the more pertinent question for this game. The Bengals won in Detroit by 23 points last week, so first thought would suggest that the Rams should be able to cover 15 points at home, especially after a dominant 38-11 win against the Giants on the road last weekend.

Matthew Stafford has formed a great connection with Cooper Kupp who now leads the league in receptions and TDs while just a few yards behind the leader in receiving yards. You’ve got to think he’ll have another big game here against this beaten-up Lions defense.

It could be a Robert Woods game though who they heavily involved in the TNF win against the Seahawks, keeping both of them happy isn’t easy and with this probably becoming a blow-out it would make sense to give Woods his targets as well.

Desean Jackson is still very capable of big plays but he’s the epitome of boom or bust while Van Jefferson is usually reliable when targeted. They will look to Tyler Higbee as the third target though, he’s been very efficient in recent weeks.

With a large spread, it’s usually sensible to look at the running backs and Darrel Henderson and Sony Michel should both get some work in this one as they may well lean things more in Michels’ favor to give their main back a little bit of a rest.

Do the Rams Cover this Spread Then?

For my NFL pick, I definitely don’t want to take the Lions getting the points, there’s a good chance they get blown out on both offense and defense, but do I want to take the Rams giving away that many points?

It may well be a similar score to their game against the Giants last week where they restrict the opposition to 10 or so. Will they put up 40 points by themselves? Possibly but I think I’ll lean under that line.
