With Hart playing in top form, it allows the rest of the team to play with more confidence. They haven’t had to worry about a soft goal against deflating momentum. This is already a team that can be stout defensively, so having Hart locked in makes them a formidable opponent.
Best Players in Top Form
The Golden Knights have a great team on paper, loaded with high-end talent. But it’s one thing to have these players, and it’s another for them to be fully in sync at the right time. Vegas has its best players in top form right now. The two leading scorers in the playoffs right now are both Golden Knights: Jack Eichel and Mitch Marner.
Both Eichel (18 points) and Marner (21 points) are not only offensive threats but also good two-way players who kill penalties at a high level. Having your best players also shut down opposing power plays is a luxury that not every team has. With Eichel and Marner each in top form, it’s going to be tough for anyone to knock off the Golden Knights.
Good Coaching
John Tortorella is a veteran head coach who has one Stanley Cup under his belt, back in 2004 when he was with the Tampa Bay Lightning. One thing is for certain: Torts has done a good job getting the most out of this Golden Knights team. As mentioned earlier, Vegas has gone 19-4-1 since Torts took over as head coach.
We often see this in the NHL. Talented team underachieves, so they fire the head coach. The new coach comes in, and they catch fire, going on a long run. Think back when Craig Berube took over the Blues, and they won the Stanley Cup. It’s also not unprecedented for such a late-season coaching change, like Vegas did at the end of March. We saw this with the New Jersey Devils back in 2000, when they hired Larry Robinson at the end of the season, only to win the Cup. Tortorella could be the next Robinson.
