Alas, the final leg of the Triple Crown arrives. Belmont Stakes is the oldest of the trio, with the first edition of the race taking place in 1867. This year marks the 158th running of the historic race. It’s also the third consecutive year that the event will be held at Saratoga Race Course due to ongoing renovations at Belmont Park.
Known as the “Test of Champions,” Belmont Stakes features several familiar faces from the last few weeks of racing, including the top three finishers in the Kentucky Derby – Golden Tempo, Renegade, and Ocelli – plus other contenders, including Chief Wallabee, Commandment, and Emerging Market.
The field will be drawn on June 1, but in the meantime, the best offshore sportsbooks have odds on this year’s expected favorites, sleepers, and long shots.
2026 Belmont Stakes Odds
Belmont Stakes odds are current at the time of writing and provided by BetOnline.
- Renegade (+180)
- Chief Wallabee (+350)
- Commandment (+575)
- Emerging Market (+600)
- Golden Tempo (+675)
- Powershift (+1000)
- Growth Equity (+1300)
- Ocelli (+2800)
- Ottinho (+3300)
- Vitruvian Man (+3300)
Renegade – the morning line favorite at the Kentucky Derby – tops the board once again. He’s followed by Chief Wallabee, who finished fourth at Churchill Downs. Golden Tempo, who pulled off a come-from-behind victory as a 30-1 underdog, enters the Belmont Stakes in the sleeper range at +675.
Favorites to Win 2026 Belmont Stakes
If we’ve learned anything from this year’s Triple Crown races, it’s that the favorites can’t necessarily be trusted to win. Napoleon Solo won the Preakness Stakes at 8-1 odds, and we’ve already established that Golden Tempo wasn’t thought to be a true contender.
Renegade (+180)
Renegade is back in the mix after finishing second at the Kentucky Derby. He put together a strong race at Churchill Downs but was ultimately outkicked by Golden Tempo and lost by a neck at the finish line.
As was the case with the Kentucky Derby, Renegade has everything going in his favor. He’s finished second or better in each of his last five races, including a pair of victories at the Arkansas Derby and the Sam F. Davis Stakes.
Is there value in backing Renegade to win at +180? He’s certainly due to win another major event, and he proved he can handle the 10-furlong distance at Churchill Downs. With his legs well-rested, he has every reason to take this one.
Chief Wallabee (+350)
At nearly twice the price, Chief Wallabee could be a solid alternative if you’re looking to fade Renegade. The colt proved to be a true contender at the Kentucky Derby, finishing fourth at 8-1 odds.
To date, Chief Wallabee’s most impressive race came in the Fountain of Youth Stakes, where he narrowly lost to Commandment.
The concern with Chief Wallabee? The distance is seemingly showing to be an issue. He’s gone 1-2-3-4 in his four races, with his place dropping by a spot as track length steadily increases. Can he handle another 10 furlongs at Saratoga Race Course?
2026 Belmont Stakes Sleeper Bets
The first two legs of the Triple Crown have shown that you need to look beyond the first handful of favorites to find value. Fortunately, the sleeper range contains some high-profile contenders at fair prices.
Commandment (+575)
Commandment had 6-1 odds to win the Kentucky Derby and was once the betting favorite as the start of the race approached. A disappointing finish saw him cross the line in seventh, falling significantly short of expectations.
The track record was there for Commandment. The colt won the Mucho Macho Man Stakes, the Fountain of Youth Stakes, and the Florida Derby leading up to Churchill Downs. Now, it’s time to determine whether his Kentucky Derby result was simply a fluke or a sign of what’s to come.
Commandment hasn’t raced since Kentucky, giving him a leg up on some competing horses (including Ocelli) that ran the Preakness. This is a solid value at +575.
Golden Tempo (+675)
The shocking winner of the Kentucky Derby (and the first ever to be trained by a woman), Golden Tempo, makes his return to the track after skipping Preakness and aiming straight for the Belmont Stakes.
Golden Tempo has never finished lower than third and looks like a strong contender to land in the money once more after spending a month away from racing. Still, some are wondering if the Colts’ success is sustainable.
At +675, there’s some wiggle room here. Golden Tempo is a proven winner on the biggest stage, and that certainly counts for something. Expectations are a tricky thing, though, and jockeys feel the pressure just as much as anyone else.
Best Longshot Bets at Belmont Stakes
A horse racing betting guide isn’t complete without an extended look at the best long shots in the field. Will we see another shocker at Belmont Stakes?
Ocelli (+2800)
Ocelli wasn’t thought to be a major player in the Kentucky Derby, but he ended up finishing third as a 50-1 underdog. He’s only ever finished at a higher position once, but he generally hangs around the top three or four.
That was the case at the Preakness Stakes, too. Ocelli came on strong toward the end but didn’t quite do enough to land in the money, finishing fourth at 6-1 odds.
Ocelli is undoubtedly capable of getting the win, but one has to wonder if the colt still has something in the tank amid a rigorous schedule. Belmont Stakes will be his third race in roughly a month, likely limiting the upper boundaries of his speed and stamina.
Ottinho (+3300)
A true dark horse in the field, Ottinho enters the Belmont Stakes without much recognition or experience. He earned a second-place finish at the Blue Grass Stakes in early April and finished third at the Withers Stakes in February, but otherwise, there’s little to go off of.
The fact that he’s never finished out of the money suggests that he could outplay his +3300 odds, but this will also be the longest race of his career, and there’s no way to predict how he’ll handle the extra distance.
That won’t – and shouldn’t – stop bettors from picking him to win, but if you’re among that crowd, just make sure you understand what you’re getting into.
Responsible Gaming
Sports betting should be entertaining, not a way to make money. Never bet more than you can afford to lose. Use responsible gaming methods. Top Belmont Stakes Bets for 2026
Of the two favorites, I lean toward Renegade at +180. Not only does he have the more impressive track record, but Chief Wallabee’s recent form gives me some pause about whether or not he can handle all 10 furlongs.
Commandment is my choice of the sleepers. The seventh-place finish at the Kentucky Derby was disappointing, but you don’t rattle off four straight victories by accident. I’m willing to give this colt the benefit of the doubt and bank on a bounce-back effort at Saratoga.
Ottinho stands out as a real value bet at +3300. If you think his finishes in the money are legit, there’s little reason not to at least sprinkle a small wager here.
