If not the best game of the year, especially in the final innings, it is among them as the Blue Jays and Dodgers were giving backers heart attacks Tuesday night.

Atlanta and Boston supplied us with the rarest of triple plays Tuesday. How rare, nobody alive had ever seen it before, that rare. A soccer star is offered a billion dollars and guess what country offered it? (Like you don’t know.) This plus all other sorts of interesting news with top trends and free picks.

About Last Night…

MLB

Toronto took a 4-3 lead in the 9th inning at Dodger Stadium and scored three times to have a substantial 7-3 lead as +130 underdogs. Instead of locking down L.A., the Dodgers scored four times which sent the game into extra innings. With a single to right field, it looked certain the Blue Jays would take the lead. Then Mookie Betts and Will Smith did this.

With the game still tied, James Outman ended it in style.

One of the best endings of the season. (Unless you are a Toronto fan.)

If you had St. Louis at -105 at Arizona, you felt good about being ahead 1-0 but not great in the bottom of the 8th inning. The D-Backs used their speed to create two triples and scored three runs and made it hold up 3-1.

The Angels and Twins bullpens were pathetic in blowing four-run leads late in their games. The team from Anaheim had a 6-2 lead at Detroit but surrendered four runs in the 9th. Fortunately, those holding +116 Halos betting tickets won 7-6 in 10 innings. No such luck for Minnesota fans who had a 6-2 lead going into the 8th vs. Seattle, with their bullpen permitting seven runs the last two innings to fall 9-7 to the Mariners as -120 favorites.

Finally, you don’t see this every day or even every century. Though Atlanta lost 7-1 at Boston, they executed the extremely rare 8-3-5 triple play, which last occurred in 1884. (The date is correct).

Trendy Talk

MLB

  • Houston is 40-14 vs. teams outscoring foes by 0.5 or more runs/ a game the last two seasons.
  • N.Y. Yankees are 2-16 (-16.6 Units) vs. teams averaging 1.25 or more homers per game in the second half of the season the last two years.
  • Oakland is 1-22 after scoring two runs or less in two straight games this season.
  • Baltimore is 16-7 in road games after having won three of their last four games this season.
  • Chicago Cubs are 14-4 Over with an AL team slugging percentage of .400 or worse this season.
  • Philadelphia is 12-3 Under after three consecutive games versus an interleague opponent this season.
  • P. Sandoval of the Angels is 15-3 Under after a win.
  • A. Heaney of the Rangers is 13-3 Over when the total is 8 to 8.5 the last two seasons.

What to Watch for and Win (Hopefully)

The Buzz

MLB – Trade Rumors

We still have plenty of time to make trades, but there is uncertainty. The Yankees have more holes than Cody Bellinger would fill. And what says once Bellinger gets away from Cubs batting coaches he keeps hitting?

Shohei Ohtani should be traded but there has been speculation about how badly the Angels want to move him and most potential buyers have not played their hands at least publicly about what they would have to give up.

St. Louis was supposed to be a big seller, yet nothing is on the front burner at the moment. Also, when you really look at the marketplace, most sellers don’t have great players that could move the needle.

The other big difference now is the added wild card team which makes teams wonder what to do while still in contention.

NCAAB – LeBron James' Son, Bronny, Suffers Cardiac Arrest

Bronny collapsed Monday and was taken to the hospital and is out of ICU in stable condition. No conspiracy theories here, we hope the cause is determined and he can go on with a normal life, which hopefully includes basketball.

Just goes to show, you never know.

NFL – Saquon Barkley Signs

In a somewhat surprising move, Barkley and the Giants found a way to satisfy each other. Not sure why Barkley didn’t hold out a week to place more pressure on New York, which might have juiced the price a little, but that was his choice. Let’s see how this impacts the marketplace.

Top Betting System

MLB – Nationals vs. Mets (-105 RL) Play Goes Thursday, July 27

Play On an NL team with a money line of -200 or more like the Mets, with a starting pitcher whose ERA is 3.70 or better on the season, with a team on-base percentage of .310 or worse on the season. Teams like New York are 78-13 the last five seasons when this pops up, winning by 2.9 RPG, making this a possible RL play.

Out the Door

Sports - Big Contracts Signed by Justin Herbert and Jaylen Brown

Brown signed a Supermax deal despite his postseason troubles. Herbert is a stud, playing on a team that needs to stop the run and an iffy head coach in our opinion. Nonetheless, they got paid.

Soccer – If You Don’t First Succeed, Try Again

Saudi money in sports remains a thing. After failing to sign Lionel Messi, the Saudis offered young French superstar Kylian Mbappe one billion to play for PIF-controlled Saudi club Al Hilal for one year. Reports state Mbappe would actually receive 770 million, with the balance going to the Paris Saint-Germain club. This would help Mbappe against worldwide inflation. (sarcasm)

MLB – Don’t Troll Elly De La Cruz

On Monday, the always-exciting Elly De La Cruz was robbed of a home run in the first inning. In his next at-bat, the Milwaukee scoreboard operator added this into his picture:

Which said “Almost Hit a Home Run in First Inning... But didn’t.

So what does De La Cruz do? This…

What Bettors Like – Play or Fade?

MLB - Top 4 Bets by Percentage - Highest First (123-83 record, 26-13 of run)
