MLB Parlay for April 28: A Bet That Pays (+361)

Table of Contents

Today’s baseball card is large and attractive. Let’s take advantage of a parlay. Top sportsbooks have released their MLB odds for today’s baseball action. Two games, in particular, interest me as worth investing in the Guardians vs. Angels and the Cubs vs. Braves.

For reasons that I will explain, you should play the run-line for both games. Feel free to parlay both bets at online sports betting site in order to maximize your profit.

Cleveland Guardians vs. Los Angeles Angels

Thursday, April 28, 2022- 04:07 PM EDT at Angel Stadium

Cold Streak

Cleveland is worth fading right now as it continues to suffer a cold streak. So far, the Guardians have lost six in a row. The fact that they generated five runs yesterday may seem to indicate progress for their offense.

However, three of the runs that they scored came in the game's final two innings when their fate was already practically sealed. Before last night, they had scored a combined total of eight runs in five games.

Young Kid

Angels' starter Reid Detmers is establishing his footing in professional baseball. His ERA is as high as it is because he allowed five earned runs in one of his starts. In that start -- on April 15 in Texas -- however, his FIP (like ERA, but factors out fielding) was 1.88, which shows that he actually performed very well individually.

Detmers is coming off arguably his best start of the season where he allowed two earned runs in five innings against Baltimore. While Baltimore's offense is, by any statistical measure, terrible, Cleveland's offense is looking like one of baseball's worst at the moment given their lack of production.

L.A.'s youngster has good stuff -- any pitcher who makes it to professional baseball will have good stuff. His velocity is improved and he has nice breaking stuff -- his curveball and slider stand out, especially.

He throws both breaking pitches a combined total of almost fifty percent of the time, but these pitches have yielded a combined total of one extra-base hit. They distinguish themselves from other sliders and curveballs with their strong amount of vertical movement.

Detmers vs. Guardians' Batters

I like Detmers tonight because, in addition to being cold, Guardians' batters match up poorly against him. Detmers is a lefty, which is bad news for the Guardians because they rank 25th in slugging .291 against lefties.

Cal Quantrill vs. Angels' Batters

Cleveland's starter Cal Quantrill is struggling with his command. So far, he's yielded more walks than he has strikeouts. His problems locating his pitches make him more vulnerable tonight because Angel batters are already primed to take advantage of his offerings.

Quantrill primarily throws a cutter and a sinker. Both pitchers combined for 75.1 percent of his arsenal. I like Angels' batters tonight because they rank fourth in slugging .500 against both pitches from righties. Lookout, for example, for Jared Walsh, who has a hit in four straight games.

Chicago Cubs vs. Atlanta Braves

Thursday, April 28, 2022 - 07:20 PM EDT at Truist Park

Key Trend

The Cubs are in a terrible spot tonight given a key trend. Dating back to the second half of last season, they are 1-9 in the game following one in which they played one exception. The one exception was the narrowest possible win over lowly Pittsburgh.

Lefty Victim

Chicago's starting pitcher Drew Smyly is slated to be Atlanta's next left-handed victim. Smyly is coming off a terrible home start against Pittsburgh. His lack of good form can't help him against a Brave lineup that matches up well against him because is a lefty.

Currently, Atlanta ranks eighth in slugging .423 against southpaws. In addition to boasting a nice array of righties, they have switch-hitters like Ozzie Albies who are wrecking left-handed pitching.

Kyle Wright

Atlanta's starter Kyle Wright is new and improved. He is emphasizing his curveball much more strongly. Moreover, his individual pitch quality is better. For example, his fastball velocity is greater than it was last year.

Wright's improvement is a fact that MLB oddsmakers are still trying to catch up to. His backers are yielding +3 units so far as Wright is still underpriced. He's allowed two earned runs in 17 innings thus far.

MLB Pick: Braves -1.5 (-106) with BetOnline
