Miami (FL) Hurricanes vs. Kansas Jayhawks

Betting Preview

The Miami Hurricanes have made it to an Elite Eight for the first time in program history. That seems kind of ridiculous knowing how big of a brand Miami is as a university. Overall, I guess Miami isn’t just a football school now.

Anyway, Miami defeated LSU, Wisconsin, and Iowa State to reach the Elite Eight. All three teams are inconsistent on the offensive end and really good defensive teams. Miami’s offense dominated those defenses and the Hurricanes’ defense, in turn, benefited from active hands and plenty of turnovers.

Plus, Miami limited turnovers in its first two games on the offensive end. Everything kind of worked out in the Hurricanes’ favor. But against Kansas, all of that is likely going to end.

Miami’s defense has allowed teams to shoot 34.5% from deep and 52.9% from inside the arc this season. The Hurricanes are also allowing teams to earn 30.5% of offensive rebounds, which is an above-average rate as well.

Miami benefited from teams not hitting shots when they were wide open. Kansas will. Kansas is shooting 35.5% from deep and 53.8% from inside the arc while also earning 33.3% offensive rebounds.

The Jayhawks also turn the ball over just 17.5% of the time and get to the line more frequently than Miami.

On the offensive end, the Hurricanes are very solid, shooting 34.4% from deep and 55% from inside the arc. That might continue but overall, Miami still struggles to earn second chances with just 22.7% offensive rebounds on the season.

The Hurricanes have been hitting tough shots and have multiple players that can hit those tough shots. But ultimately, that kind of shooting isn’t going to last, and knowing that Miami is so poor at earning offensive rebounds, it seems likely that Kansas will eventually pull away.

Kansas has held teams to 30% from deep and 47% from inside the arc on the year and continues to limit fouls at a solid rate as well.

Prediction

It just seems like Miami has had an easy ride into the Elite Eight. I’m not saying that Miami hasn’t deserved an appearance into the Elite Eight or anything like that. They have.

But once Miami faces a team like Kansas, things that the Hurricanes are succeeding with they won’t be against the Jayhawks.

For your best bets, look for Kansas to shoot lights out, limit turnovers and dominate the glass on both sides of the court.

If Kansas does that, the Jayhawks will be well on their way to the Final Four with a double-digit win over Miami as the NCAAB odds favorites.

Ultimately, Kansas needs to represent the one-seeds with the other three one-seeds eliminated from the tournament!
