After an OT loss to the Kansas City Chiefs at home last Thursday, the LA Chargers (8-6) will look to get back on track in Houston. As for the Texans (3-11), they managed to find another win this season with a blowout victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 15.
Los Angeles Chargers vs. Houston Texans
Sunday, December 26, 2021 – 01:00 PM EST at NRG Stadium
The Chargers entered Week 15 as 3-point underdogs and are now the favored team for this matchup. As for the Texans, they were 4-point favorites over the Jaguars and are getting the points this week. According to GTbets (visit our GTbets Review), LA is a 10-point favorite over Houston with the over/under at 45.5.
The Chargers enter this week following a 34-28 overtime loss to the KC Chiefs on Thursday Night Football. LA’s defense failed to hold up against QB Patrick Mahomes, letting him toss 3 touchdown passes, including the one that took them into overtime.
COVID-19 could play as a deciding factor in this matchup after a total of nine Chargers players have tested positive for the virus, including top defender Joey Bosa, who has already been ruled out for Sunday as an unvaccinated player. Other key players who will need to clear protocol include, center Corey Linsley and running back Austin Ekeler.
Some good news, however, is that starting quarterback Justin Herbert should be in the clear even after backup QB Chase Daniel reportedly tested positive.
On the other side of the ball, the Texans picked up only their third win of the season while snapping a three-game losing streak by beating the Jacksonville Jaguars 30-16. Starting quarterback Davis Mills threw 2 touchdown passes with wide receiver Brandin Cooks catching both. While Mills had a good day, cornerback Tremon Smith stop the show by returning a kickoff for a 98-yard touchdown.
Their defense also came to play and held Jacksonville to 3 of 14 on third downs. However, we have to remember that this win wasn’t that special as it came against a struggling Jaguars team that just lost their head coach. Now, they are back to facing real competition this week and a Chargers team that is averaging 35.5 points a game.
It was a great win for the Houston Texans last week, but this week isn’t going to the same outcome unless *knock on wood* the Chargers lose all of their starters to COVID. But, that won’t happen as the league just released less strict protocols for the remainder of the season, stating that only symptomatic players are to be tested.
This game also comes at a time that, unlike Houston, the Chargers have something to play for so this is a must-win game for them and there’s no way they going to let a pipsqueak team crush their playoff chances. You should definitely take them for your NFL picks.
