The home health aid who helps me with caregiving for my Mom is Puerto Rican and she didn't hear from her family for a week. Fortunately they're safe. The storm knocked out all communication and I can barely imagine how much stress she was under not knowing if her family was even alive.

Unfortunately, insane is a good way to describe it.

just horrible. these storms cause such damage and just seem to be more and more destructive

aw man that mustve been really hard on her. i'm glad to hear her family is safe though. one of my good friends was dealing with the same thing...her family in PR and wasn't able to get in touch. thankfully they are ok too, but everything has been destroyed.

just hope everyone stays safe

I know of the following who live in Florida on our forum:
Le
Wager
BTJ

Who else?
Me, on the Gulf coast, as of now it doesn’t look like it’s coming my way, but it’s a week out and these talking heads on tv are desperate for a major hurricane, the season is ending and they haven’t had anything till now to talk about, they won’t be able to make a accurate prediction till Sunday is my guess

Stay safe CapPig. Hopefully it won't come your way.

Rdaler in Central Florida as well.

Every year the same thing it seems. For the 5 years I was there, I had 2 choices Team A or Team B. I always chose Team A as I was over an hour away and I could bring my family to stay at the hospital if I wanted. The bonding experience with co-workers, being able to have your family safe with you, and making bank being paid overtime/double time while you were sleeping was great but the worry for the community and family not in a shelter svcked. A group of us would get there early and claim the chapel as our spot. Mentally, we made it like it was camp. If you are ever in a situation where you are without power/water for an extended period of time, the maternity section where families are usually are waiting for their loved one to have a baby usually has a bunch of private shower bathrooms. Bring flip-flops so you don't pick anything up but they are usually nice and clean. Team B was the relief staff that came in days later when the State emergencies were lifted but not all roads were yet cleared

I was on the "hurricane ride-out" crew. No family allowed in the chemical plant, even though we shut it down. It was still a hazard because it wasn't completely cleared and high potential for damage.

Hurricane wasn't a direct hit so it wasn't bad. We had the best meals for 3 days (1 pre, 2 post bad weather). Then everyone came back from evacuating to restart the place. Downside.... No beer.

Everyone on the ride-out crew always had a new level of respect for each other afterwards having gone through it together.
