What a day in the golf world! If you are a fan or bettor of the sport, it is not a day not soon forgotten. This is one person's general take. Quite a wild evening in baseball and though favorites have been covering at a higher rate of late, underdogs have made noise. This plus a variety of other topics including hot trends and free picks and who is on the Madden cover for ’24.

About Last Night…

Golf

The biggest sports story of the year probably happened yesterday with the PGA Tour and LIV Golf joining forces. This may be the beginning of more foreign entities buying American sports franchises not unlike the large amounts of farmland sold to these very same people.

Since I have been doing The Betting Pulse, I’ve made my feelings clear on LIV and the PGA Tour. I’m not going to rehash that.

Jay Monahan lied to everyone and kept secret what he was doing in dealing with what he said was the enemy. Both parties said they were draining resources in the court system and that could go on for years, but it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand they had plenty to hide that they did not want in public view.

The simple fact is the Saudis OWN men’s professional golf. Those that claim they can envision the future because of this sport, are lying again because they are blinded by the money they just made while hiding their secrets.

All the details will be known later and the future will be laid out by the gatekeepers, mostly for their benefit. Once again, greed wins out.

MLB

The Oakland A’s finally had some good news. Against one of the hottest pitchers in baseball (Mitch Keller) and a quality bullpen, the Athletics pounded both in an 11-2 beatdown of Pittsburgh on the road. That was Oakland’s biggest margin of victory this season and it was the biggest underdog to win this season.

The Dodgers had an 8-4 lead going into the 7th inning at Cincinnati as -170 favorites and while the bullpen has been unusually shaky when L.A. has had a lead, they were solid at 73.6% save percentage. Not last night, after conceding one run in the 7th and three in the 9th, the Dodgers lost 9-8 and they rank 25th in bullpen ERA.

Though Texas beat St. Louis again, the news that Jacob deGrom will need Tommy John surgery is a big blow to the Rangers. Not so much now with how they are hitting, but having an ace in the postseason is a big deal. With the money owed deGrom, will Texas make a trade for a top starter from another club this summer?

Trendy Talk

MLB

  • Baltimore is 13-3 (+13.1 Units) on the road when the total is 8 to 8.5 this season.
  • Boston is 17-5 with a team slugging percentage of .410 or worse on the season.
  • Jordan Lyles and the Royals are 0-12 in all games in 2023.
  • N.Y. Mets are 25-8 Over after a two-game span where the bullpen threw nine total innings or more.
  • San Diego is 17-4 Under when the money line is +125 to -125 this season.
  • Pablo Lopez of the Twins is 11-0 OVER in June games since 2021.

NBA

  • Denver is 28-12 ATS having won two of their last three games this season.
  • Miami is 13-1 Under after a close win by three points or less this season.

NHL

  • Vegas is 4-13 off two consecutive home wins by two goals or more.
  • Florida is 12-2 Over revenging a blowout loss of three goals or more.

WNBA

  • New York is 5-14 ATS in home games after two straight games where both teams scored 70 points or more in the last three seasons.

What to Watch For and Win (Hopefully)

The Buzz

MLB – How Good Is the AL East?

The proof.

MLB – The Rangers Marcus Semien is Sizzling Hot

If you saw Semien last year with Texas, he either looked like a player who was in decline or pressing with his new team trying to do too much.

A more relaxed Semien is on a 25-game hitting streak and if you projected his current status over an entire season, this is what it would look like.

MLB – Canadian Fire Affecting Outdoor Sports

As reported by Jon Morosi on Twitter - @MLB officials are tracking environmental conditions in New York ahead of the Yankees-White Sox game. League officials are in communication with medical and weather experts. As of now, the first pitch remains scheduled for just after 7 pm ET.

Here is the story with some pictures.

Soccer – Lionel Messi Joining the MLS the Inter Miami Next Year

Top Betting System

MLB – Dodgers (-150 ML) at Reds and Giants (-200 ML) at Rockies

Play Against June home underdogs with a moneyline of +100 or higher like Cincinnati and Colorado, after four straight games where they committed no errors. In the past five years, these types of clubs are 5-36 in this situation.

Out the Door

NHL – Has Florida Turned Into a Pumpkin?

It sure seems like Florida has lost its edge in having nine days off between series. The defense has crumbled and after being impregnable for weeks, goalie Sergei Bobrovsky was chased in Game 2.

At the same time, Vegas seems to be peaking which has led to this.

Golf – Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports

Couldn’t help but chuckle when Barstool head Portnoy said – PGA Tour commish Jay Monahan is a vile human being. I like many who agree. But seeing Portnoy over the years with his passive-aggressive style, that feels a bit rich, to say the least.

--> Do you think Jay Monahan will retain his position as Golf PGA Tour commissioner after this merger?

Hard to say, he actually has more power than he did Monday. Tough this was mentioned in some circles Tuesday, today it appears No.1 player Jon Rahm was in deep discussions with LIV and possibly Monahan felt that could start an avalanche.
