After a prolonged labor battle, the WNBA and Women's National Basketball Players Association reached a verbal agreement on the terms of a new collective bargaining agreement early Wednesday, just 51 days before the league's 30th season is set to tip off.

Under the new CBA, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania, the salary cap will start at $7 million (up from $1.5 million in 2025) with the supermax starting at $1.4 million (was $249,244 in 2025). The average salary will be around $600,000 ($120,000 in 2025), with the minimum salary surpassing $300,000 ($66,079 in 2025), sources said.

First time in history a business which has been losing money since its inception chooses to continue the struggle by giving its employees a raise despite not putting out a product that interests the public enough to turn a profit

How much $$$ are they losing each year? Got to think the future looks bright to give that kind of raise. Ahead of the curve?

I think a while back a couple of the guys here mentioned that they got new TV deals that should bring them into the green

Still it seems that it’s being forced or it’s all because of one girl & either way we have to wonder if the interest will last

I can imagine the IRS doesn’t like this league much at all. Damn near every team a tax right off at this point with the salary raises. Let’s call this a charity league rather.

Basketball is just not a good fit for females

I’ve said it many times I love women’s softball, volleyball, tennis, etc.

Female professionals in those sports above could kick our asses

But we could form a good enough team of athletes here from BMR which could beat WNBA players

Hell a good 12-13 yr old boys team can beat them

That’s what makes Caitlin Clark so fascinating as She’s the closest we’ve seen to a female playing like a male skill-wise

Give me a professional women’s football league id follow that in a heartbeat

it is hilarious that this subsidized entity just agreed to pay employees 5x more. And of course the profit sharing of 26%. What is 26% of negative $45 mil. Pass the hat bitches!

when I was in college (still living in a college town, not in school), the Lady Rebs came out to our pick up court. I was playing with some solid players (myself of course) and a guy who played 6 man for Ole Miss back in the day. I was probably 25 or 26 at the time. I will say this, those bitches were in much better shape than me. They hustled, got a lot of loose balls and chased down some long rebounds. They also had the benefit of playing together, running specific plays, etc. But, end of the day, while competitive, we beat them The final score was too close for comfort however. Perhaps we took them lightly. There was no rematch bc the next group had "downs"

It's technically illegal. It's known as "trading insolvency" and since some ownership is publicly traded corporations, this should get a closer look.

IRS has classifications for hobbies, but what the WNBA is exactly, I'm not sure how to classify it. All I know is that it's 1- something we don't need, 2- nobody wants it enough to pay for it, 3- it's divisive and anti American and 4- it's now publicly subsidized via the tax code.

I 100% believe you because when I was 25yrs old we played against three Division 1 girls in Tampa

As you might already know It’s a no-win situation…

If you take it easy on them & they score, you get ragged by onlookers

If you go hard at them, you get ragged by onlookers

🤷‍♂️
