Though there were well-documented issues, Wyndham Clark won an exciting final day at the U.S. Open. The Phoenix Suns’ ownership group is going after an NBA title and took the next step with a trade. There was some crazy baseball news with the Cincinnati Reds blazing a trail. This and stories about Lance Lynn and today being “Fade Day” on Jordan Lyles.

About Last Weekend…

Golf

Congrats to Wyndham Clark for not wavering and winning the U.S. Open. From a wagering perspective, this was something also.

Also had to feel for Rickie Fowler having a tough Sunday and Rory McIlroy having his putter betray again in the final round. Unfortunately for Rory, he set U.S. Open records for low total score (271) and greens in regulation (59) by a player who didn’t win.

MLB

Let’s talk about the Cincinnati Reds who have won eight in a row after sweeping Houston on the road. Usually, what keys hot streaks in scoring runs the Reds bats have been red hot in this stretch scoring 5.8 runs a game. This is a young team with a youthful pitching staff that is now just one game in the loss column behind Milwaukee for first place. And Cincy has moved up to the 6th-best bet in baseball at +11.2 units and can expand that with three games at home to start the week against Colorado.

Miami swept Washington on the road and has won four in a row and 12 of 15 and their 41-31 record in their 2nd-best start for 72 games. Yet, it is still weird to see them with a -24 run differential, which is next to last in the NL East.

Boy, were the Dodgers and Yankees humbled by being swept over the weekend. The Dodgers were outscored by 21 runs at home by San Francisco and the Yankees were outscored by 17 runs at Fenway Park. For years, the Dodgers have had one the best bullpens in the majors, but they are 29th in ERA as of today.

College World Series

If you are not watching the College World Series, five of the first six games have been decided by one run with some remarkable comebacks. Though this is an arguable point, this is the best field in recent memory with a ton of current or future first-round draft choices. The action continues today and this week.

Trendy Talk

MLB

  • Chic. White Sox are 0-11 after five or more consecutive road games this season.
  • Cincinnati is 15-5 after two or more consecutive wins.
  • Miami is 18-6 when the total is 8.5 to 10.
  • Houston is 10-0 Over when playing on Monday.
  • San Diego is 16-3 Under playing against a good team (Win Pct. 54% to 62%).
  • Kansas City is 20-6 Under vs. a bullpen that blows 38% or more of their save opportunities.
  • Tampa Bay is 24-2 as a home favorite of -150 or more. (Tuesday)

What to Watch for and Win (Hopefully)

MLB

Among the most fascinating to begin a new week are first-place teams Arizona at Milwaukee along with a smoking hit San Francisco crew taking on a finally improving San Diego squad. Look for all our daily free MLB picks.

Football

With the NBA and NHL over, we are in the time of year when bettors can kick back a bit and enjoy the summer, but as we all know football never really stops and we have quality futures articles for you in the NFL and college football ready for you to digest for the upcoming season.

The Buzz

NBA – Suns Going For It

New Phoenix owner Mat Ishbia is not looking to build something for the future as he took a page out of the Arizona Diamondbacks when they first started winning and went all in to win a World Series in 2001.

Ishbia traded for Kevin Durant and now Bradley Beal of Washington to go along with Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton. The Suns have 163 million tied up in those four players for the 2023-24 season, which as you might imagine doesn’t leave much for bench players to make a more solid roster.

Washington moving Beal signifies they are going to do a COMPLETE rebuild just after giving Beal a max contract and stupidly a right of refusal on trades, which is why he’s ending up in the desert. If nothing else the Suns will be interesting next season.

NBA – Big 3 in Golden State Breaking Up?

Breaking News: Draymond Green is declining his $27.5 million player option and will enter unrestricted free agency, Rich Paul tells @wojespn on Twitter. Green can talk with the Warriors, explore sign-and-trades, and free agency.

MLB – White Sox Lance Lynn Strikes Out 16 and Losses

Lynn became just the fifth pitcher since 1990 to take a loss in a game in which he threw at least 16 strikeouts and allowed three earned runs or fewer, according to ESPN Stats & Information research. Chicago lost 5-1 to Seattle Sunday.

Top Betting System

MLB – Blue Jays at Marlins (+140 ML) and D-Backs at Brewers (-111 ML)

Home teams like Miami, after allowing two runs or less in two straight games, against an opponent after a combined score of 15 runs or more, are 34-8 since 2019, including 7-1 this season. Consider the Marlins and know that the Brewers fit this exact same system tonight.

Out the Door

MLB – Julio Rodriguez a Special Talent

Last year when this writer went to spring training in Arizona, there was this big dude playing center field that caught my eye and you could see he was the full package. His name was Julio Rodriguez and yesterday Rodríguez reached 40 homers and 40 stolen bases in his 200th game, the 2nd-fastest by any player since 1900. (Fernando Tatis Jr. did it in 185 games).

NBA – Suns Phone Lines Are Now Open

One final tidbit on the Suns trading for Beal, they are getting and taking calls on Ayton who has not shown a willingness to elevate from above average to Top 6 center.

MLB – Jordan Lyles Fade Day

Royals’ Lyles is 0-11 and Kansas City is 0-14 in his starts this season. Lyles and company are currently a +130 road underdog at Detroit tonight.
