16& 17 year olds are statutory minors and in about 35 States cannot under any circumstances be charged as an adult, other allow the DA to charge murder or assaults as an adult.

We don't allow 14 year olds to drive, smoke, drink, vote, go tanning or get a tattoo because we understand they aren't fully developed and are unaware of the consequences of their actions.

This is a horrible decision and Flys in the face of all modern societal trends. Had he been 18 doing this, then I'm in agreement, but 14....Not the way we do things here.

The equivalent here would be thecWNBA banning a female player for getting an illegal abortion in Oklahoma or something when she was 14.

I think it's bad to hold people accountable for an incident or two commtted while they were kids. But, it does not appear to be just one thing (urinal incident) that got Miller barred from NHL. This had been going on since 2nd grade.


Mitchell Miller conducted a series of vile acts as an adolescent in a racially motivated campaign against a classmate named Isaiah Meyer-Crothers, who had developmental disabilities. Miller, at age 14, pleaded guilty to one count of assault and one count of violating the Ohio Safe Schools Act. He has never appeared particularly remorseful.


Although Miller had to undergo courses/education as a result of the incident to try and teach him to be a "human being", they don't appear to have been effective since he was not remorseful and did not learn his lesson. Clearly, it was ingrained in him as a person. It was how he was raised. I can only imagine what kind of parents he had that caused him to have this approach in life.



I'm betting Mitchell nor his parents realized his racism and bullying throughout his younger years would come back and bite him the a$$ the rest of his life. After 10-15 years of growing up with this approach to others, I can see why it is a permanent part of Miller.

As Veterans Day is approaching I can tell some of you guys haven’t served. Join the military and they will look at your acts as an adolescent, sealed or unsealed records. The NHL doesn’t allow anyone to join and they may look at your “moral” conduct while as an adolescent.

If a State outlaws abortion (as is a States right), they do so by declaration of viability at some # of weeks (14-25 in most States, others have total bans). In doing so, by declaring that seperate DNA / heartbeat equates to a baby/ human ...and it is later learned that a 14 yr old woman had an abortion and now wants to play in the WNBA, it would be actually WORSE in terms of the State defined crime committed and whatever charges would be brought (murder/ manslaughter, etc).

That's the analogy. The hockey kid was a bully at 14, no doubt, but if this were a WNBA player and she had these records dumped into the media regarding an abortion, what would be the backlash? Because the standard now is that minors records are public property for sports teams and damn the law enforcement angle...

It's the law now Vitty. Times have changed, and some States are already charging providers & it won't be long until there is applicable law applied to those seeking.

Afterall, if you're gonna charge a John seeking a hooker w solicitation because there's a crusade against "taffiking" then certainly the crusade against abortion will result in much more aggressive prosecution.

Republicans will force poor people to have kids and then be against services that support the kids. Some states, like pa, it will always be legal. There would be no backlash from people because most rational people can distinguish between a decision to terminate a pregnancy and bullying a mentally challenged kid. They won’t look at it terms of law, they will at it in terms of common sense and decency.
