That would punish Washington for making the championship game and having their only loss be to a playoff team they beat earlier.
Just making the conference championship game doesn't carry much weight given how conferences have difference formats. The having beaten them factor may carry some weight, but not enough given it was a 3 point win at home earlier in the year in a game they were outplayed

Ohio State and Michigan basically played the Big Ten Championship game in Ann Arbor this past Saturday. The game in Indy is a result of poor conference structure -- having divisions.

The committee thinks highly of Ohio State as well. They were #1 for two weeks, while Washington was #5 for three weeks.

They'd be punishing Washington for barely scraping by for most of the season. Style points matter in college football. The eye test also without question matters

For what it's worth, the top 10:

1. Georgia
2. Michigan
3. Washington
4. Florida State
5. Oregon
6. Ohio State
7. Texas
8. Alabama
9. Missouri
10. Penn State
I've got Oregon and Ohio State getting in by Washington and Florida losing. Oregon is in if they beat Washington. Michigan will be in. As long as Georgia wins they are in. If Bama beats them it's gonna be interesting. Definitely Michigan would be #1 if that happens. The 4 spot is where I think Ohio State gets in. Only way I could see Ohio State missing it is if 3 and 4 win which isn't happening.

Since Oregon is beating Washington they will be 3rd if top 2 win. If Florida State wins then Ohio State is out. Louisville is going for an outright upset. Therefore thats giving Ohio State the 4 spot.

Teams should be able to jump up as much as they drop

Ohio state goes from #2 to #6 by losing a close game to Michigan

Alabama would deserve to jump from #8 to #4 if they knockoff #1 Georgia

Won't happen but it should go both ways

IMO. The biggest travesty would be Bama over Texas if they both win. Obviously how they win is important but when you have to pick between two teams, you have to ask, how’d they do H2H.

IMO if the top 4 teams win they are all in, and it would be the 1st time all 4 teams would be undefeated in the CFP.

Also if any top 4 team loses I would like to point out Alabama & Texas have the most wins vs bowl eligible opponents at 7 each. They also have the most wins vs Power 5 conferences at 5 each. I think Alabama would hypothetically leap Texas based on beating the #1 regardless the h2h factor.

That's very likely scenario based on the lines.

I'll say it again, the only way things get messy is if Bama beats Georgia. If that doesn't happen things fall into place pretty easily.
